So my trusty HD4870 is on its way out (lots of artifacts in all games) and its time for an upgrade. can anyone please reccomend an upgrade? There just seems to be too many choices and am stuck as to what to get.

I never upgraded the card before as I was always getting 60fps constant in most games.

System specs in signature.

My budget would be around £200 but am willing to pay a little more if worth it.

I want to be able to play games like The Witcher 2 with decent Fps. Current card runs it at around 30-40 fps

Thanks in advance

What res are you running?

If you want to stay with AMD then these are worth thinking about :

For nVidia :

There are other cards around your £200 budget, various 480's, a 570, other 6950's ect. If you didn't want to spend it all then look at the 1gb 6870's and so on.

6950 or a GTX 480/GTX 570

6950 something that flashable if you wanted to 'upgrade' it to the 6970

480 or 480

or a 570

Any of those would be nice.

I would advise the ATI card as it has 2Gb of Vram, and games are out and about (and for the fututre) that are going to use it, if you want to get the most out of your gpu.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Im running at 1920x1080.

Im torn between the recommended 6950 and the 480 special edition.

The 6950 has 2 gb Ram but the 480 is not far behind with 1.5 gb. The 6950 is also cheaper.

If I just unlocked the shaders on the 6950 how would it perform against the 480?
