How long before the LEZ is applied to cars?

Going on that list then a good percentage of the affected vehicles will be council owned anyway, just another expense that councils will have to fork out for.

...which means higher council tax :(

My brother in law recently had to sell his old transit and downsize to a small new van. He's a builder about to retire so it made little sense to buy a new large van. So his income has now reduced due to not being able to do the same size jobs he once did.

Council owned vehicles are exempt - as are emergency vehicles, although they have said they have said they will ensure any new vehicle will comply.

I love it how every ecomaniac scheme involves money, hitting the mainly less well off (if they have older vans) by making them pay.

If they could afford a newer van they probably would have one!

My parents have to get a new van because of this restriction.

Its really stupid, its a J reg van with about 50,000 miles on the clock, so clearly not used that much! Just twice a week or so.

But now, we have to buy a new van just so we can use it twice a week. Highly annoying

It's not really stupid at all, your J-reg van pumps out toxic fumes and the City has decided that in order to reduce its emissions it has to target those vehicles with high emissions.

Consider that a newer van with have better MPG anyway, thus cost saving :p

Don't forget the tax saving! ;)

Cost saving? When it barely gets used?
