..who park in Disabled spots!!

I was sat in the car at my local supermarket and was watching the world go by. I noticed that a guy parked in a disabled spot with no badge, just parked (at an angle) got out (no seatbelt ofc) and went into the shop.

So I watched the cars come and go for the next 30 minutes. Out of those only 1 person was what I would call "disabled" basically he had a walking stick, but then ran to catch up with his wife?

Most people put a the badge on the dash and literally jumped out. So out of about 20 cars only 1 had any sign of a disabilty. Is this normal? Do you ever park in a disabled space?

As I was in a childs space (baby was asleep in back of car) I also noticed only a few people seem to have kids who parked in the spots. In fact 1 mum seemed to think that having a 20 year old son makes it ok to park there.

This really peeved me off! Why do they think its ok to do it! Is it against the law or as its "private" property nothing can be done.

/rant off.

Well from reading the title this thread was less cringe worthy than I thought it'd be.

But no I totally agree, but then again what are you expecting to get out the car?

"% of non-disabled people who park in Disabled spots"

...would've probably been a better thread title. If that wouldn't fit, I apologise.

Too many disabled spaces anyway. Let us non-disableds abuse them.

You were in a childs spot but the baby was in the car? If your partner went into the shop without a child then you are as guilty of abusing spaces as the people parking in the handicapped spots.

Agree. Peeves me and the Mrs off, especially Parent and Child parking on a busy day and some lazy bint on her own takes the last space so she can get her fat arse closer to the bank machine.

Why? Do you need the extra door space? Cant be bothered to walk? Not having a go, genuine question.

Yes there are a lot of disabled spots but there are more non disabled spots. These are further away but surely thats the point.

There are far too many disable places in so many car parks. Perth is terrible for it.

Happens all over the place. I've seen literally rows of disabled spaces, virtually all empty. What proportion of the population do they think are disabled?! It's hardly surprising people disregard the rules and use the empty spaces when the rest of the car park is rammed full. Personally I dont, but I do find the rows of empty disabled spaces a ridiculous situation.

In do agree however, it that if he woke up, I would get out and take him in, hence requiring a spot :)

I don't actually park in disabled spaces, I'm just annoyed that there are always so many empty ones. It's disproportionate.

So if someone said "yeh I park in disabled spaces, I always get away with it lol!" I wouldn't mind.. I'd be like: "fair play" :p

Maybe it's a case of "can't be bothered to address the situation in a lawful, sensible way i.e. speak to supermarket managers, so just rebel in a stupid way (well not actually me but, yeh, you get the idea)"

No, these spaces are meant for parents with infants or toddlers. It's meant to give them more room to get kids in and out however, there are no set rules for it. Perhaps they pulled in and baby was asleep and decided to leave it there.

Stop trying to troll by turning anything around on the OP. You sound like a typical ocuk fool trying to sound big and clever by getting one over on someone else.

As for the op, i will use a disabled space if I am getting cash out AND there are loads of other spaces left. If not, i'll park up as normal and walk over.

This conversation was had many years ago on and a lot of the "my cars too expensive to risk damaging" brigade were stating they have every right to park in a disabled/child space. Wouldn't be too happy if some kid put a nice scratch down it though. A friend at work has just had a letter warning him against parking in Lidl child spaces without a kid, caught on CCTV, if it happens again he will face a fine.

The problem is, as far as I am aware, this is where the laws get odd as I don't think you are required to pay a parking fine unless its from the police or council. Sure someone with more knowledge can advise on this.

:D

I see things like this everyday when I walk to the local supermarket for my paper. Someone (usually an overweight 20 something female driving a tank / space wagon) will pull into a 'parent & child' spot without an actual child in the vehicle :(.

For those people that do park in the bays maybe try using a wheel chair for a weeks and see how you go. Think the disabled allowance is about right .

If there is a packed carpark, rows and rows of disabled spaces free and I literally just want to run in and out of a shop I will use them.

Are the spots only for physically disabled people? How do you know that these people did not have some sort of mental disability? Or if they were in pain or if there disability only happens after a prolonged physical activity. There a far to many variables for a man sat in a car to diagnose who does and does not have a disability in the few split seconds it takes to get from the car to shopping centre.

This really bugs me too. Especially when its usually some pillock in his penis extension merc or rangerover.

I work in one of the large DIY sheds and around christmas time when we had the really bad snow and I was working outside binding christmas trees. Some tw** with dark glasses on, in a huge range rover parked at an angle across the 2 remaining disabled spaces. No disabled badge, not even a fake limp.

Now the carpark was pretty busy and also covered in snowdrifts but in his fancy 4x4 he would have hae no problem parking elsewhere. Not long after he abandoned his car a couple arrived in a minivan (berlingo or something similar) which clearly displayed a disabled badge and had been modified to take a wheelchair. No disabled spots for them to park in.

To my amusement the lady proceeded to park sideways behind the rangerover and got out to help her husband down with his wheelchair, blocking the rangerover in. They went inside to do some shopping. Meanwhile the guy with the rangerover came out and saw what had happened and started going mental. He asked me if I saw "who the **** parked there" and i told him since the car displayed a disabled badge and had parked so close to the disabled spaces it might be some indication.

He went inside and confronted the couple who basically told him where to go and they would let him out when they were finished shopping. If he haddnt parked in the disabled spot then he wouldnt have found himself in this position and he should be more considerate. Took about 30 mins for them to finish their shopping while he ranted and raved on his phone, sat in his car waiting.

Made my day :D

I parked in a disable spot yesterday, didn't realise at all what I did.

Went to work (Sunday so could park right outside the store), came out on break and a colleague said "do you realise you're in a disabled bay?", I didn't realise, no, so moved it and felt awful for taking it up!
It had rubbish markings, I only parked in it as it was on the end (diagonal spaces, parked reaaaallllyyyy close to the curb) so I didn't have to worry so much about some idiot opening their door into my car.

Where I work there are only two disabled spots, but often there often are too many disabled bays, and they get to park for free for however long they want in most places, and on double yellow lines too!
Is absolutely crazy :/
Seems completely out of proportion and unfair.

Around me if you have a disabled badge you get your own bay outside your house.
Of the 10 or so within a minute of me, have never seen anyone disabled get in or out of their car.
One of them is a chaved up Corsa of all things!

I disagree with the abuse you are giving him. If the baby was asleep then he should have parked elsewhere in a normal space, as he would have done if there were no parent and child spaces.
There was no immediate need to use the space, so should have vacated the bay.

Well they're parking in the right space though surely? I mean, they're not able to think normally and park in a normal bay so they are in fact dis-abled!
