Online RTS gaming - do you care about ruining stranger's games?

still do-able in a 3v4... obviously tougher, but you just got to give the AI side a bit of beef... if you 3 humans still on yourside got the upperhand on the other 3... their 4th player wouldnt be able to do much even if he cleared out the AI.

you should have punched at the 3 hard it might have failed, but you never know.

ive been in 4v4s were literally all players were down to just a hq and calling in their doctrine units for ages... until we got a foothold and were able to add buildings etc... weas playing for about 4 hours or so, mental battles of attrition.
 
CoH seems much, much worse than most other games for it I've found. How people can't say "I need to go out in x amount of minutes/hours, do I have time" I don't know. There are plenty of other games where you can jump in straight away, play, and then leave without causing any problems with anyone, so why not do that rather than ruin everything for everyone?
 
I'm guessing it was a casual custom game? If you want people to always have an incentive to keep playing with strangers you're best off with ranked/ladder matches, in which case most will play to the dire end. Leave for fun games to friends/people you know.

Pretty good advice. I used to play DOTA a fair bit and even though not many people disconnected it was a pain often enough to be annoying. But if you play with people from a channel or suchlike you will have people who will almost always stay till the end...

Its a shame that CoH is like this. What would be nice is a reconnect feature and also adding leaves to peoples stats so that A: they are discouraged from ruining there stats by having a leave % and B: so you can kick them out of your game so you dont have to play with them.

HoN does this quite well although you still get leaves and idiots, but its a much more rage worthy game. :P

I would personally try to add the people you enjoy playing with to your in game friends list so you can create a decent game with decent people. But having no reconnect feature is a pain in such an awesome online game like CoH
 
It's very annoying in team games when people leave like that.

I play League of Legends (dota clone) quite a lot and when people leave it's basically game over seeing as your so reliant on your team mates.

In short, yes very annoying but nothing to get too wound up/upset about :)
 
In some types of games I feel no way about leaving, like battlefield etc, but in your situation I would stay and complete the game unless it was something really important that had suddenly come up, even then I would say sorry and not just drop from the game.
 
This sort of behaviour is frowned on quite a lot in Quakeworld, where a lot of 4v4 mix games are played. Games last 20mins and if somebody starts idling/drops midway through it can be pretty annoying.

In clan games it pretty much never happens, less than 1% of the time (ignoring genuine conneciton problems etc).
 
Sometimes someone leaving in coh actually helps you. The spam of crap from an Expert AI can get really annoying after awhile, especially if the player who left wasnt good. I've won a fair few 2v2 games when i had been losing, team mate left and the ai just over whelmed the enemy :p
