hmmm, interesting, the cpu code doesnt match the SB convention...

EDIT: oh, the G620 is pentium and the new i3 doesnt seem to be any better than 2100

the new core i3 2105 has newer HD 3000 graphics, the 2100 only has HD 2000 graphics

they are about half the price of core i3 yet only around 15% slower and still have integrated hd graphics so a great cpu for average users.

£35 for 4GB DDR3 ram
£45-50 for Pentium SKT1155 cpu
£60 for H67 board

so £150 ish for a very nice setup.

the pentiums are on sale at a few places now :) no sign of the 2105 or other new ones yet, i'm sure they will be on sale later today. Hope ocuk sells these pentiums as they are only slightly slower than core i3.

Yeah looks like they're just i3s without HyperThreading. Since even ffmpeg-mt only runs on two threads, it does indeed make perfect sense for an HTPC.

Yep, core i3 is around £90, the was only 2 pentiums for SKT1156 and they were only £20 ish cheaper than the old core i3's.

Intel has had to release these as AMD's chips out out within 3 weeks which will be of similar performance, cost and power usage.

The prices should fall to £45-50 for the G620 over the next few weeks as the price in bulk is nearly exactly half of the core i3 which is around £90 so very little money for a quick cpu with hd video decoding, perfect for htpc's.

Are these as overclockable as previous pentium chips, IE, Pentium Dual Core E2xxx, E5xxx, E6xxx and G6xxx series? Because it's locked multi and 1155 these are near impossibe to clock right?

i'm pretty sure you can't overclock these even on P67/Z68 boards. They don't automatically overclock for single core tasks either, you need the core i cpu's for those i'm afraid.

The cheapest SKT 1155 that will overclock is the core i3 2120K cpu which isn't out yet, we don't know when it will be out, you'd need a P67/Z68 board to overclock it.

hmmm should i get one of the G620T's or wait for Llano chip?
This is for a HTPC build where is was originally considering the Zacate platform but i would like the extra power on tap for general internet usage and light gaming.

The quad core Llano CPUs will have a graphics chips as fast or even faster than an HD4670 DDR3/GDDR3 it seems.

An HD4670 is still fine for many games like WoW,DragonAge,Civ 5,StarCraft II,the various L4D games,Portal II and a few others.

I'm in the same position. I haven't yet heard of a Llano below 45W though - so if low power is an issue (it is for me) then this might be better, especially since the Core i3's actually rival Zacate for real-world power usage, despite the higher TDP.

That review was done with an 880W PSU and used one of the worst Zacate motherboards for power consumption even by the reviewers own admission.

I would look at this review:

I have a Core i3 2100 myself and the Core i3 2100T and G620T have a lower clocked version of the HD2000 IGP. IIRC, I could run L4D and UT3 at medium settings at 1280X800.
