% of non-disabled people who park in Disabled spots!!...

I don't really like to park in disabled spaces as a general rule of thumb ..... however, if I'm shopping really late at night then I might use one if the car park's almost empty. I almost always use the parent and child spaces though as these are located in the same part of the car park in our local supermarket (just opposite each other) and I think that it's a bit unfair that abled bodied people get the same level of priority as disabled users. But in this world of equal opportunities ..... should it really matter where I park based on my mobility or whether or not I have kids?

Newsflash: the general public doesn't care about your offspring, if it too much like hard work, then don't have them. If you do choose to have them, don't expect consessions?
parents also dont care about putting little dents in the side of your car if forced to park next to you, without the room to get the littl'un out of his seat, parent bays are not just for the benefit of the parents
50% of parent bays are taken by old codgers in my local supermarket who dont want to walk the extra distance

This is a snap I took at Saisbury's last year...

4 disabled spots taken  Oh, and it was really quiet with most of the rest of the car park empty

Just lol at that being road legal.

Also that is only 2 disabled spots, not 4.

so you're not pro making a disabled persons life just a little bit easier, even though you don't actually have to do anything at all?

The people who can walk around the store for an hour need the journey from the car to the front door reducing by 10m about as much as I do. The genuine disabled who need wheelchair etc I can understand, but not every Tom, Dick and Harry who currently have blue badges.

Are you blind? :p The front of the... vehicle... is parked over two bays and the back is parked over two more bays on the adjoining row. The dividing line for those bays is seen running straight under the middle of the car. Four bays. :)

Correct - one wheel in each bay...

the supermarket companies do however care about their children as it means they will be spending a lot more money.

If adding a few child spaces improves the amount of families/parents and children they get then it's a good thing for the shop.

I always park in the disable space at my local 24 hours Tesco = P only after hours when all the disable people are asleep.

definately only 2, you need to look closer, the crosshatched areas are not bays

nope

There is only one bay for the front wheels, and one bay for the back wheels.

The extra ones you think exist are crosshatched out. Disabled people need to be able to full open their doors so get more room than a standard parking bay.

Funny how you hardly ever see families taking their kids to supermarkets. The "sweet" little things just get in the way.

more annoying to me is people who drive 4x4s or expensive mercs and bmws who think they can make their own parking spaces were ever they want, and if they decide to park with the peasants in the normal spaces provided they are allowed to take up two spaces.

I hold my hands up, I'm blind as a bat after all. :o I'll blame an optical illusion or something, but yeah it's two bays. My apologies fwiw, you were right. Oh and I should have known about the hatchings, having only used disabled bays for... oh... about five years now. Fail. :D

You're so cool.

I'd like to see more big car parks be built with wider spaces from the off. Space width these days and even length come to that, are just not big enough for a lot of cars. Car parking spaces have stayed the same since the dawn of car usage on our roads, yet now we have 4x4s and bigger cars generally. A lot of cars stick out the end of a space in supermarkets compromising the safety of cars passing by. I know why supermarkets and the like have never addressed it, they want to maximise potential profits and cram as many cars in as possible.

But sometimes you just wish they would make EVERY car paring space as wide as the parent and baby ones. No more car door dings from ****ers who don't care, more space and ease of getting people in and out of cars. It would just be so much better all round if they were all made this big and we just did away with parent and baby (only need is for extra width loading/unloading) and only had a fairer representation of the disabled population. I have never been to a supermarket where even half of the disabled spots were used. Normally there are about 20 or so, and of these, about 6 are occopied typically, probably half of those don't even have a badge, and those that do maybe 1 would really need it.

Yeah pipe dream I know.

I hope some people read this thread in a few years, after they have kids and see how mind numbingly retarded their comments are.

Saying that, by the sheer selfish nature of some of the posts (mattyfez) then I doubt that's even a possibility
