New system now or wait for latest CPUs?

Hi guys,

I've been pondering creating a new system for a little while and after changing my mind multiple times I came up with something like this:

Intel Core i7 2600K
2GB XFX HD 6950
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz
Asus Sabertooth P67 Rev3, Intel P67
750W Corsair Enthusiast 750TXV2UK TX V2 Series
500GB Samsung HD502HJ Spinpoint F3

I'll be using the i7 mainly for gaming but down the line I'll be doing a lot of video editing/encoding and don't mind paying out more for quicker encoding times.

Now the only thing stopping me right now is the upcoming Bulldozers from AMD. I'm a bit out of the loop with current hardware at the moment and want to know the general consensus on the Bulldozer. Is it worth waiting for, is it going to outperform the i7, wait for later revisions or should I just go with what I have in mind.

I appreciate any suggestions or help as I know you guys get hundreds of threads like this a week.

I'm in no major rush but I'd be saving a bit of money through various deals building that system within the next week or so. Is there a time frame on bulldozers release?

Just a follow up on this. A friend of mine works in a retail store and is able to sell me a 2600K and some other parts for a fairly cheap price but he can't wait around for me. Should I go for it or just hold out until the bulldozer comes out and get the rest of the parts, minus motherboard of course, now?

yes im going to jump on the sandybridge bandwagon in about a week, because if you start the whole should I wait for .......... you could be doing it forever.

It's going to be around 200ish. I know if I wait for the next big thing soon after the NEXT big thing will come out but I don't want to get the 2600K only to find out in 2/3 weeks there's something else out around the sameish price that slaps it about.

I know really in the end I'm not actually going to see the real time performance boost but I'm sure a few of you know how I feel right now lol.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I'm coming into some money early june but gonna wait as Bulldozer is literally so close. Wait for some specs and then make the decision between SB and BD. Prices may drop when BD comes out too, you never know what might happen ;)

£200 for an 2600k? At that price you could get it and sell it on at a profit anyway so you could buy it and still wait for bulldozer

I am also thinking of going down the i7 2600K route soon for a gaming boost and to help out with the huge amounts of simulations I will be running next year at uni. With Bulldozer so close it makes sense to at least have a look at what AMD has to offer before pulling the trigger if you can.

hahaha it's a thought but I don't think I could do it to a friend.

Split the profit, I'm sure he wont say no to a few pints being thrown his way for very little effort, unless he's paying the extra on the 2600k there shouldn't be a problem :)

People say, don't wait just do it, because you will always be waiting. Well that's true when the next big release is 6 months away, however it's only a few weeks. It of course makes sense not to buy a SB just now and wait and see what AMD brings to the table. Then you buy the latest and greatest.

It's like buying an Ipad 3 weeks before the Ipad 2 is due out and saying, "ahh but I'd always be waiting for the next big thing." Well actually you wouldn't, you would be waiting another year. I'm of course spending far too much time now on this and going to just put a full stop :(...

P.S. Wait for BD
