Our next door neighbour has a rather large trampoline and their kids are on it all day I mean ALL day, the other day they were wrapped in their duvets jumping up and down as it was so cold.

It's great that the kids are actually moving rather than gawking at the TV and I'm not moaning about kids enjoying themselves and that I hate the sound of children's laughter :p but it got me thinking could there be any permanent damage to a person who spends 40 hours a week on a trampoline? some sort of RSI???

Thoughts ?:)?

All I know is my half sisters LOVE their trampoline, admittedly not as much as your neighbours though but still. I must admit I've been on it a few times and the fun isnt lost on me.

If you did nothing but bounce solidly for months on end I imagine it would probably cause some damage or muscle strain though.

Simple solution.

Im sure there was a news article last summer warning people not to use a trampoline with more than one person on it. If you bounce at the point just as another person has bounced, the trampoline is going upwards against your downward force and exert additional pressure against the ankles.

Last year I went to a friends who had a HUGE trampoline for their kids. They also hired bouncey castles as a side business. Cue the simply awesome idea of setting up a bouncy castle next to the trampoline with the sides off.

Doing allsorts of aerial acrobatics between trampoline to bouncy castle was fun, but dangerous. Infused with alcohol, numerous injuries were sustained. Would do it again though :D

My thoughts are that tramamamamampolining forces are not jarring at all (unless you fall off) so there'd be no or little danger of RSI, especially in young kids.

It's pretty low impact and the trapoline is doing most of the work so it's probably not putting that much stress on their bodies.

My 3yo absolutely love jumping and trampolines. whenever we go somewhere with one she's hardly off it, it amazes me how she can just keep jumping for ages. Puts a massive smile on her face though so I don't care. Currently umming about whether to get her one for our new garden. It's pretty long but narrow and a trampoline would take up a fair amount of space...

Have done the same BBQ at my Brothers last year, Tramp in front of a Bouncy Castle in front of the raised decking used as a running platform it went like this:

Run at full belt down the decking jump onto the Tramp and fly yes fly and land on the bouncy castle was all great fun for about 3 hours until my skinny mate turned up really ****ed and decided to do one better and took a really long run up he hit the Tramp and with him being so Skinny and light flung himself over the top of the bouncy castle and landed hard on the the garden shed which he went through the roof and fell on the lawn mower and a mixture of other sharp items found in a shed - he ended up breaking one of his arms dislocated his foot/ankle and had a few quite bad cuts from the blades of the lawn mower - it took him about 8 weeks to get him self right he has a bad scar on his back where 205 stitches where used to put him back together.....

Really funny though nearly all of us was on the floor laughing until he shouted "Help I'm Hurt No Bull ****" he thinks it's funny too now after the event we nearly got it on camera too shame as it would have been a "You Tube Classic"

Please FULLY star out swearing.

The only injuries likely to occur are tiwsted ankles or anything else similar from falling akwardly or off the trampoline. Or on to another child.

Yeah, I can't imagine it having any other bad effects really - It can definitely get the heart rate going the leg muscles burning... trampolining seems a pretty good leg/cardio workout tbh...

When I was at school, someone in a PE class at the leisure centre next door came off the trampoline and their shins came out of their knees.

They had a shedload of pins in their legs to fix that.

True story.

It's actually quite a good cardio activity, good for improving balance and stabliser muscles too. Long term it's unlikely to give you any serious health issues, it's easier on the joints than running. :)

There's a family a couple of doors down who let their kids go on the trampoline all day. It drives me barmy at night as the eldest is out there sometimes until midnight even in the winter. Summer is worse though as I can hear the damn thing when I have my windows open and I'm trying to get to sleep. It isn't exactly loud but it's just annoying.

I'm sure they (the whole family) must have screw loose.

My daughter has a 14 foot one and I go on it occasionally, but my upper back and shoulders start to ache after 20 minutes or so, probably my age and fi(a)tness levels causing that. It does send quite a shock up your spine if you happen to be coming down after someone else has just bottomed it out.

Trampolines are great :D

But no, I don't think they will get RSI or anything from the time spent on it, as they are playing, rather than just mundanely bouncing in the centre.
