335i v 330i v 330d

You make a good point there. Can't really disagree with it.

'souped up rep-mobile' i have to admitted sounds like an antagonistic badge, but coming as a 2 time and current BMW owner myself we more than know about the badges given to us.

U gotta admit that their cars are marketed at certain demographics if you were to profile the average kind of guy that buys a new (not second hand, since when prices drop you get all sorts of people buying them) 335i might fit that description all too well ;) - It's certaintly not a chicks car, and 300+ BHP of twin turbocharged motor is definately for the kind of person who likes a bit of oomph under their right foot.

Oh yes :D

Your zero depreciation because its rare thing makes even less sense now, 335i's depreciate like a rock into a pond, and in 2 years time the F30 Coupe will be released which will hammer values even further.

Rybrook had a '10 plate 335i Coupe with Pro nav last month for £25k.

£15,000 of depreciation in YEAR ONE!

Even with a healthy discount it's still a 5 figure drop in 1 year.

Zero outlay motoring

You do? I hardly ever see them, which is a constant source of frustration becuase the fact there are not many around (There are less than 2000 pre LCI 335i M Sport's registered in the United Kingdom, I suspect Porsche probably sell more 911's in a year!) is making a complete nightmare to find a nice one to buy. I'm not even sure what your point is here. Don't buy a 335i because one day a Porsche might pull up behind you?

Once I've bought one I'll often be finding 320d's asking me to move over, let alone 911's, because when I'm on the Motorway, I've got the cruise set to 70.

It's a shame they're not selling as I'm guessing BMW will can them at some point? Seems like they are in a bit of a niche market as everyone either wants a diesel/eco petrol rep mobile or more sporty/raw car. If people actually knew what mpg they returned I'm sure they'd think twice.....

At least it's good for second hand buyers!!

It's not just the MPG, people will see the higher tax band and opt for a lower emission Dieslol instead to save a small amount of cash.

Anyway, Fifth Gear comented on an aftermarket LSD for E9x cars like the 335i/330i for half a grand a long while back. Wonder if they're still kicking around...

The 335i actually doesn't sell too badly comparatively - you'll be suprised to know that 335i sales outstripped 335d sales, so like for like more people choose petrol than diesel at this end of the market. It has also been pretty much confirmed that the 335i will live on in the next generation 3 Series - though whats perhaps more sad is that it will likely be the only 6 cylinder petrol engine in the range.

The sad story is the 330i. 40mpg combined - even in the real world - 173g/km of CO2 - same tax bracket as a 330d yet... sold in so few numbers it was discontinued as a saloon or touring a year ago and is outsold by the 330d in Coupe form.

Birds offer a Quaife LSD for the E92. It's about a grand.

That clears that up then!
Queef LSD sounds interesting, I guess this means the 335i of the last couple of years will be even more affordable in the next couple of years :D

Im not up for willy waving.

One of the main reasons i got the 335i was that it was understated. Id rather have a car for me than impress the people around me.

I'll write a mini review over the weekend, but the more I own the car, the more I realise I have little choice to move onto that fits my needs.

The last M1 was 1978. You must mean the 1 Series M Coupe.

M cars are amongst the highest depreciating BMW's out there! A 3 year old M3 is yours for £30,000 less than it was new.

Have some 'LOL?' for the idea of buying a £40,000 1 Series because the insurance on your £25k Elise was expensive, though.

.

This, being the sole reason that I want one, and the fact it will possibly be one of the last great drivers M cars before they all get 1.6l 4 pot turbos :)

I have a feeling the 1M Coupe is going to hold its value a lot better than most M cars because most of the people who have bought them seem to think they are the greatest car ever, better than any M car in history, the spiritual successor to the E30 M3, and that they are only making 450 of them.
So all the owners will harp on about them being the worlds greatest drivers car, this will rub off onto prospective buyers, coupled with the limited run will keep the prices high.
