I just got a new 46" 3D TV and have a GTX 580. I was playing Mafia 2 but for some reason couldn't activate the 3D. In fact, it didn't seem 3D was working with anything at all! Heaven looked normal as did everything else I tried.

I have obviously downloaded the NV 3DTV play drivers from NV and my TV is on the compatible list.

How exactly would I set it up?

I'm sure i'm just making a n00by mistake!

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure as my setup is a little different, but, you may need to check the resolution and refresh rate the game is configured for as I think it will work in 720p @ 60Hz but 1080p would only do 24Hz (down the HDMI cable that I assume is what you've got hooking the two together).

well the TV put a message on the screen that it had detected something in 3D.

Not too familiar with using a high tech 3D after using a crappy CRT for the past 7 yrs!

I'll try doing that. Are there any other settings I have to change?

Not that I'm aware, if you've also already been to the Nvidia control panel and stereo3d page it has.

The guide might help you spot something missing if it's still not working: http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO-98478.html

thanks for that. It seems to be giving conflicting info!

The nv site says you don't need any of the NV 3D crap, just the manufacurer's glasses and TV, drivers and your comp.

I think I will give it another try in a few hours.

Is there anyway of using HDMI wirelessly?

The conflict is a licensing thing I think.

If you already have an Nvidia 3D Vision kit (even though it wouldn't be used cos your TV has its own glasses/emitter), then 3DTV Play is free.

If you want to use it without owning the 3D Vision hardware, then a license fee is required (the Buy Now link from http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dtv-play.html explains).

Does say there too that there's a 14 day free trial, which might allow you to try it out before shelling out.

So long as:

- Mafia 2's graphics options are set to full screen (if it has a windowed / full screen setting)
- M2's resolution settings are set to 1024x768 and 50Hz or 60Hz
- In the Nvidia control panel, under stereoscopic settings, you've enabled it (there are tests to perform here to see if it works too)
- Apparently you need to make your TV the primary monitor, according to the .pdf guide from before

Then I would expect it to work (as it does when using a 120Hz monitor and 3D Vision glasses) once your TV is running in 3D mode and your glasses are on (maybe unnecessary to set a specific mode, depends how good the TV is at automatically determining the type of 3D input).

The shortcut key to manually toggle 2D/3D mode at any time 3D content is running is Ctrl+T if stereoscopy is enabled in the control panel.

I don't see anything else expected or unusual compared to running it on my setup; though I don't have Mafia 2 myself to have tried it specifically.

thanks. When i use the nvidia 3D test, the TV goes into 3D mode, but it doesn't go onto 3D when in game ore in heaven. I have moved my comp back upstairs but will try ctr+T tomorrow.
