Hi guys,

Have never been to Italy, but my girlfriend and I are quite up for going. We have looked in to Lake Garda and Sorento, but these seem ridiculously expensive (i.e; £600 each for a week.).

While this isn't too much to spend, for the same price I could probably get (at least what I percieve) as a 'better' holiday.

So, my questions;

Is it possible to do Italy on the cheap? (£400)
If not, is it worth spending £600-£700 for a week in these places?

The money isn't an issue, the value for money is! :)

Thanks :p

'If not, is it worth spending £600-£700 for a week in these places?'

What a strange question without telling us what the accommodation's like.

If you want to do it on the cheap, book the flights at the right time (basically either very early or a few weeks beforehand and off peak), fly to a cheap airport and hire a car to where you want to be. Also, camp if you can bear it.

Is that really a strange question? Clearly for that amount of money I'm not looking to camp. I'm asking whether the location justifies the cost. If the consensus is that it doesn't, where is a better place in Italy to stay which is cheaper.

Thought it was pretty clear myself.

Yes it really is a strange question, as you are asking us whether £600 is value for money for a week at Lake Garda. You haven't told us what kind of standard accommodation you're referring to, you haven't even told us when you're wanting to go.

How can we even hope to entertain that question without more information? It's retarded. If you were staying at a 4* chalet then yes, it's value for money. If you're staying at some ramshackle glorified shed then no, it's not value for money.

'Pretty clear' - lol.

LAWL oh wow.

A hotel in LG costs around £600 p/w. For a similar hotel in other parts of Italy, the cost is around £400. So, is it worth paying extra for LG, if not, where are other good places to stay?

Check out lake Como. Been there quite a few times and love it, not as expensive as other places depending on the hotel.

Como itself is a lovely little town. Take lots of mosquito repellent though!

Cheap accomodation is difficult to find in Italy, even if you are looking at small, family run "pensions" or guest houses, and when you do find it it's likely to be very basic and/or cramped.
