Which cooler -> h50/h70/620/920

Hey folks,

So I'm going to be upgrading my system in the next day or two, and am stumped over which cooler to get.

I want one of the all enclosed water ones, as I don't want a huge heavy heatsink after some issues with my current one. I am having trouble deciding between which to go for though.

The stuff I'm upgrading to is as follows, as replacements for the parts in the signature:

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 Twin FrozR II 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (possibly a slightly different one, depending on how easy this whole unlocking thing is)

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor

MSI P67A-GD65 Intel P67 (socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION **

G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL )

2x Akasa AK-FN057 Apache Super Silent 120mm Fan - 4 Pin PWM (for use on whichever of the coolers I pick, already have a couple in my case and they are very quiet)

If anyone can chime in with advice on the pros/cons between the corsair and the antec coolers I would be most grateful :) EDIT: I do intend to be overclocking this time. I stopped before due to the old heatsink never fitting quite perfectly and interfering with the board.

Thanks

used a Cosair H50 for almost three years. I've had my i7 920 D0 running at 3.8GHz for most of its life but recently moved to 4GHz - I am using 2 Apache fans either side of the radiator blowing out of the case. Under full load it stays around 70ºc now at £40 its a bargain

H50 is a steal at £40.

on 3 or 4 reviews ive seen now with the SAME FAN in push pull the ECO ALC & H50 perform the same.

The ALC has a lower profile so it seemed best for me.

I also have it set up to draw cold air from outside the case and expel air through the top. doing this dropped temps by another 5C.

I know you said no heatsinks but I own the GD65 and Silver Arrow and they work great together, the mounting system is brilliant, much much better than that Sunbeamtech rubbish. So my suggestion would be the Thermalright Silver Arrow or the cheaper Cogage Arrow. The Silver Arrow might seem a bit pricey but its performance is excellent and the fans it comes with are top notch. The Cogage Arrow is cheaper, but the fan it comes isn't great, but any two 120mm fans will give you near Silver Arrow performance.

The Silver Arrow also out performs all the current Corsair and other self contained water cooled units and will likely match or beat the new stuff.

I have written a review of the Kuhler 920 which has not been approved yet but here is the link if you want to check it out --> LINK.

I have installed this a few days ago and now upped my over clock to 4GHz on my i7 930 and under Prime95 it never went over 55 degrees Celicus (had it running for an hour and a half to 2 hours give or take a bit). Yes they are a little on the pricey side but still an epic buy imho.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I have also been doing some more reading up on them myself, and I think I'll end up going for the Kuhler 620, simply because its not overly expensive like the 920, seems to do well in tests. I was never too keen on the h50 as it was the first of these type of units I had seen and seems to be a bit old. I'm guessing the updated design/tech in the kuhler ones helps. The discount code to get it cheap is appealing though.... decisions decisions

Price difference between the 620 to the 920 is about £40 ish I think so yeah it is a little of the steep side but you get a bigger radiator and a second fan, if you are planning on over clocking then I would highly suggest the 920 to help keep your temperatures down. If not then the 620 would be an excellent buy.

The 2500K with its lack of HT doesn't get as hot as the 2600K, so temps are going to be pretty low even if you did overclock it. Frankly I'd save the money and go with the 620, with the 920 being £85 is fast approaching custom water prices.

I recently picked up the H50 at 40 quid from overclockers. I am using it with 2 x Asaka Viper fans in my 650d case. Currently have my i5-750 @ 4.2Ghz and temps are around mid-70's at full load. I have a few more things to try out to lower the temps further: changing the TC to IC Diamond and also buying/making a shroud. Hopefully I will be able to lower to around 70 degrees max.

All in all H50 is a great product for the price when used with the right fans. I've seen tests that show H50 and H70 performing very similarly so I don't htink its worth the extra money.
