Anyone here lived in New York? I may have the chance to go for a year or two for work and woundering if anyone here has? any trips? good idea?

I've recently just come back from there for a week. Stayed with a friend whose been there for 6 months as part of her uni course, she seemed to enjoy it.

Nice area, people are decent. Just be aware of the food, massive portions!

Do you like America? Have you been before? or Do you really want to go?

If the answer is yes then go for it.

If you haven't been before and are unsure then I would suggest going for a visit before commiting to a long term secondment.

I'd love the opportunity but I'm sure NYC isn't everyone's cup of tea. So far it is my second favourite US city after San Fransisco.

Presumably you're talking about working in Manhatten and New York City.

As with any heavily populated metropolitan area you're going to get expensive or small accomodation nearer the center however NYC has excellent transport links and you can commute from further afield.
Another thing to be aware of is the weather, it has proper seasons unlike the UK so it will be very warm in summer and bitterly cold in winter.

From what I understand it is also a very fast moving city, particularly for working in. Prepare to move at the speed of everyone else or be left behind.

Other positives is it gives you great freedom to explore the rest of America and even Canada etc.

limited on positions in the bed though! :o I like it aswell, if you live in a city that never sleeps surely you only need a place that you can sleep?
