Hi folks,

Iam having troubles with using the bios, it's appearing too large for the screen to fit it on, so many options go beyond the screen, and can't be viewed because of it. Any idea how to sort this?

Also, when i use DEL to go into the bios, it has some weird interface problems with screwed up rectangles of just mess covering some info. I've updated the bios to the lastest & this hasn't changed the issues. If i boot into the bios using F8 & going to settings, the screwed up graphics thing doesn't happen, but the resolution is still wrong, it's big & extends way off the end of the screen.

Any help will be appreciated as i can't see enough things to even begin OC'ing never mind just see what things are at.

SpE.

Has your monitor not got an Auto Adjust button on it so that it will scale the resolution
for you so that you see the whole of the page ?

I would personally be looking at your monitor for this problem, maybe its not picking up
the right resolution as I say try messing with your monitor and let us know what happens.

Another Nottingham based for member always good :D

Well iam with a Radeon 6990, using HDMI to a 50" tv... So i don't really get any options that will do much for scaling on the tv side of things, well i'll go have a look see to be sure.

Notts... woo indeed lol.

Yep changing settings through the tv does nothing but rescale the screen itself, the bios simply looks like it is displaying in a corrupt way with the graphics corruption i mentioned, but even forgeting that, it's like displaying 800x600 size and many options are there but off the screen, so somehow i need to change the resolution of viewing the bios...

Samsung 50" plasma, not entirely sure on the exact model number, i don't see how the tv can have much to do with the bios not displaying right?

Not all 50" plasma TV's are full HD and work at a lower resolution.

On some TV's different HDMI connectors are set up for different types of things to be plugged in.

I would have downloaded the manual to see if there's anything in it of relevance and I would have looked to see if there was a way for you to adjust the picture.

Mine is proper full HD, tried & tested without a doubt... I have looked at all the options of changing the picture through the tv, it just doesnt effect the bios screen in any helpful way.
There is zero problems display wise in any other area except for the bios screen, i have seen someone elsewhere talk about upgrading bios to support a certain widescreen display for example, but updating my bios did nothing worthwhile..

There is a switch for a 2nd bios on the mobo, perhaps this is something i should look at? Not sure about the consequences if any, and if this would be worth a try?
If not, perhaps i should just plug in any old monitor to do everything in the bios or infact setup the ROG connect thingy to do it all on my laptop? Are these options more reasonable for me now as the bios is pretty much unworkable... ?

Try you're old monitor.

Something isn't right. If you have a 1920x1080 TV there's no way your BIOS is outputting at a resolution greater than that.

Iam thinking it is giving a lower resolution somehow, as everything is quite big in size, easily readable, yet it all goes way beyond the borders of my screen somehow, it's certainly not 1920x1080 or higher, it's more like 800x600 looks wise, so everything is big, but too big as it extends beyond the screen.

You should have a P.SIZE button on your remote. Press this repeatedly to go through the different modes to see if gives you the correct display.

Are you using HDMI to HDMI or DVI to HDMI?

If it's DVI to HDMI then you need to use a specific HDMI port on the TV. With the Samsung PS50B550T4W, for example, you need to use HDMI 2.

Yeah i tried using the P.Size, it has no effect towards the bios except stretching or shrinking the display itself like it does for everything, it doesn't bring the rest of the bios onscreen at all.

Iam using DVI to HDMI, what do you mean about using a specific HDMI port? What effect does this have & why?
I haven't actually tried switching the cable into number 2 yet no, i will be doing that later today however, just didn't get round to this again as i've been rather busy, but i'll try it & let you know if that is a solution.

Have you sorted it?

If so how?

The solution might be useful for other people.

Well i'll switch to HDMI 2 then & see if that benefits the bios somehow, iam interested in knowing how this would effect the bios? Like i said, there's no other negative effect elsewhere when it comes to the display, just the bios alone.

If this doesn't work, i'll just plug in an old VGA cable and use the PC port on the tv to see how the bios displays with that, then i'll move onto other ways around it, using a monitor & setting up the ROG connect thing to overclock properly from my laptop...
I'll report back with my findings later today anyways!

SpE.

The user manual simply says "When using an HDMI/DVI cable connection, you must use the HDMI IN 2 (DVI) jack".

It doesn't say why.

That's for the Samsung PS50B550T4W which I quoted as an example.

You still haven't said what model your TV is.

Hey, i posted a reply a couple days ago, but obviously it somehow didn't actually post...

Anyway, iam not entirely sure what model my tv is, haven't looked, but once i finished sorting alsorts & got my final setup done, i did indeed use HDMI in 2....

Cheers very much for that suggestion as it was that which made it work, i was quite surprised that is the case, but yep sure was that, so yeah if anyone else does come accross the same problem, then this certainly was my solution & i couldn't be happier knowing the problem was something as strangely simple as this!

Cheers again!
