Free PS Games for the PSN being down

mechanical hard drives are extremely cheap these days.

make sure it fits (a lot of 2.5" dont, it has to be a specific size of 2.5").
make sure its 5400 rpm (faster ones produce more heat = problems for ps3 and early death)
ssd drives make next to zero perfomance upgrade

you should be able to easily get 10x what you have already for less than £50.

Thanks for the reply.

I have another 40gb drive, so was wondering how big game downloads tend to be?

7,200RPM/SSD makes no difference for games that run primarily off the disc, but for downloaded titles the improvements are quite noticeable. Don't think it's really fair to say that a 7,200RPM drive will cause early death for the console, these days they don't run much hotter than the 5,400RPM ones anyway. The only reason Sony use the slower drives is because they're cheaper.

im not an expert or anything im just re-gurgitating what ive read, as i was looking at doing it myself.

i honestly dont think its worth the risk of damaging a £200+ console for the sake of a few seconds here and there.

im no expert though and if there are cool running 7200 rpm drives then yeah go for it, but personally i wouldnt like to risk it. also ssd is extremely expensive is it not, and there have been various tests i have looked at on the internet which showed very little difference if any for the money. i dont know if this has been fixed by firmware updates or not though. personally i would stick with a 5400rpm drive, its cheaper and at least you know your safe.

No you can't, it has to be a 2.5inch drive. There is no conceivable way you could fit a 3.5inch in there.

You can do a mod for it on a phat PS3 and you can also use the 3.5 inch externally just by running the leads out, this of course looks untidy though.

if you use the mod you can make it look tidy-ish if you use a short sata cable and modify a external housing

still down :( Running out of days in may for this to happen.

As the end of the month is soo close I woukld have expected Sony to at least update us on the situation. Surely they know at this stage when the store will be back.. Their blog was updated yesterday with a Welcome Back to Gaming which reffered to the Online Gaming so that news is only a couple of weeks late!

Picked up COD Black OPS new so cheap yesterday, this must be really impacting on sales of PS3 games now.

Not fussed when it is back up long as it is 100% and doesn't go up down up down
