Hi guys, i have a worn left rear tyre on the Celica and since i have a brand new full size spare i thought ill just change them round and get new tyres at the weekend. Problem is the rotation of the spare is wrong as it should be on the right side of the car.

Is this an MOT failure?

Cheers guys.

Yes. But i'm sure any good garage would swap it over for you for not very much.

Funnily enough, when i had a celica, it failed because it had a tyre on the wrong way. I think the garage only charge me £10 (might have been less) to put it right.

Thats great i figured it was a fail but thought id better ask, off to the tyre shop i go :)

Taken from MOT testers manual website:

Failures:
4.1.F a tyre not fitted in compliance with the manufacturers sidewall instruction, e.g. an asymmetric with a sidewall marked ‘outer’ fitted with the marking to the inner side of the wheel.

Note: Direction of rotation may be indicated by an arrow and/or words, but an arrow by itself should not be taken to indicate direction of rotation.

So make of that how you will. Officially I suppose it should be failed as per above, but wether the tester decides to give you an advisory for it I dunno.

EDIT*** Looks like the above have cleared it up :)

If you swap the tyre from your spare wheel with the one on the rear left wheel won't you then fail the MOT because the spare wheel tyre is shot? I thought the spare wheel (if fitted) had to be in serviceable condition?

Some tyres are asymmetrical (have inner/outer markings), others are rotational (direction markings)
Ah I misread the bit quoted from the guidelines, I read it as being seperate conditions for rotational/asymmetrical somehow
