‎I have the opportunity on the below spec car, quite tempted even if it is just for the summer!

2001 TT roadster Quattro 180Bhp full leather, electric hood, climate control, recent full service cambelt and water pump

What would you say is a fair price for this? If I could get for £5k, could this be a depreciation proof summer 'toy'?

Miles on car needs to be confirmed.

This would be an ex. VAG specialist garage owned car.

Thanks

Just wear in mind it is a 10 year old car now, Rotty has just had his one (wifes?) cause him a few grands worth of problems. They can still be expensive to run, but unlikely to depreciate much more.

I have enquired about if anything that looks like it could go wrong. It is a mate who owns the garage, so I hope I can trust his judgement! I know you can't 100% say nothing will go wrong.

Trying to get some photos sorted of it to see...don't even know the colour yet, just had text off him offering it.

Just beware no matter how good a condition the car is in, it was still an expensive car new and will be expensive to run.

I say it every time but the 1.8T engine can be a total nightmare and cost a small packet should something go wrong.

Equally in 225 form I'd say it does pretty well in terms of output, especially as a remap pushes it even further - but agree it's an expensive engine/car to run.

theyre pretty durable unless theyve been messed about with imo

i think its and suspension and transmission parts that cause the grief, but then the ones i play about with are all lowered my a mile or more

id say the biggest costs to watch out for are clutch (due to sill 4wd setup) and all the suspension's bushes, springs and dampers

Car is silver, still waiting on mileage. Meant to be in very good condition...remapped already last month to 210bhp.

Off to look at it tomorrow, car will be for gf.

edit...120k miles however engine just been totally rebuilt :)

who by and what for?

that can only be a bad thing

By my mate. Only reason was to clean it up and sell it on. They are a VAG specialists and not a back street garage so fairly confident it is done correctly.

Off to have a look tomorrow, gf would like it as her car if all is good...

I wouldn't be so sure about that, as you know yourself most of the pressurised side of the turbo is made out of cheese, after 10 years and 120k I’d be wanting all the vac lines changing, which if you can't lift a spanner isn't a cheap job, VAG parts are very expensive for this.

Then we have VVC lifter issues which seem to hit lots of the 1.8T units after 100k, this is a £700 job. Dual mass is a £900 job, they munch coilpack £18 each, then we have oil pickup issues, £400 to sort and it will need doing at this age.

The list goes on and on.

They rebuilt the engine just as an exercise in cleaning it up to sell on? Do they have literally no work to do at the moment? :p
