Hey all,

On Sunday just gone I went to and entered Scooby Shoot Out at Elvington in York. Due to the lack of Subaru entries, it was opened up to some other cars, which was a shame, but it made for some variety for the spectators. The event consisted of: 1/4 mile runs, top speed over 1/2 mile (not timed) and a handling circuit.

The wind was extremely strong, so strong in fact that when stood on the start line, I could see my oil temperature falling. In some cases dropping from 95C to around 80C within a short period of time. Someone mentioned 57mph or something, but I'm not sure it was quite that strong!?!

Anywho I won the top speed over half a mile in my class (no award for that for some reason) and apparently came an overall 11th in the event. Which is quite pleasing considering the other machines running.

I ran on the 1/4 mile a good 28 times, launching the car hard every single time, missing gears on some runs, and generally abusing the car, and it held up great.

On the handling circuit I had no idea where I was going on my first run, as due to the wind they couldn't lay down all the cones. On my second run I found that they had elevated the cones out in place so it was easier to see, but I still struggled to familiarise myself with the course, and so therefore decided to not take it too seriously and have some fun out there :D

I ran 12.2 on the strip - beating my PB by .02seconds, but with the massive wind, I imagine I could better that. I certainly feel my lightweight alloys have made a difference, and I was fitted with my quiet exhaust!

Went 135mph on the half mile, which I think I could have gone faster if I had launched the car instead of a roll off the line and did 40sec on the handling circuit. Which isn't too shabby IMO - will definitely have more goes on there next time.

Anyway as always I have LOADS of videos, so please have a look through, all comments are as usual welcome :)

Thanks for looking.

Those photographer pics are very poor; most are out of focus, contain a lot of image noise and look like they were taken on £80 point and shoot camera.

Looks like you had fun though :)

indeed - that's my initial thoughts - awful pics.

Nice cars!

Awesome that is :) takes me back to when i used to drag race at the pod etc.

Nice consistent times aswell, and very good launches.

My best at the pod was 12.21 @ 117mph, however my 60ft was 2.1 i think LOL didnt want anything to break LOL

i have to say, your driving on the handling course looks very nifty. the car doesnt look to be the most compliant car going but you hustled it nicely and got it changing direction like you wanted it to and you were obviously going at a fair rate of knots so definate thumbs up

Thanks Matt. Honestly I didn't feel that confident out there as I found the markers a bit too hard to see and judge, so instead of going for a best time I just went for fun. I think maybe next year I will try a bit harder, but my having fun this time around certainly taught me lessons about my car :)

Looked like a good day. And looks like you had good fun! Well done on the top speed for the 1/4!

Thanks ! What did you / do you have?

I did have a Escort Cosworth K plate. I used to do all the Santa Pod drag events UFC etc, and used to drag race in a racing series where the event would be held on specific days, at specific drag racing tracks IE Santa pod, York raceway, Avon Park (now called Shakespears County raceway i think LOL)

Like i say my best was 12.21 @ 117mph, on the same day i completely ***ked my launch up, 2.5 60ft but still managed a 13.09 @ 137mph

If i had the balls to launch it properly i think i may have got a mid 11. Those were the days LOL

Looks really fun, and really makes me want an AWD car for launches like that!

Great launches and a lovely scoob. That's pretty much how I would have it looking if I owned one! :D

Cheers for sharing
