first things first been contacted by this website regarding PPI:

http://www.thefairtradepractice.co.uk/

Anybody heard any horrors stories or are they legit? Is there any where I can check I have google'd them and didn't find anything scam like.

On a completely different subject where do I stand with BT I will explain my story.

I took out a 12 month contract. I then decided to end it early because I was moving out in 3 months.
I contacted BT and they said it would cost X amount or I could transfer it to my new address for the remainder of the contract so i said ye ok great I will do that.
I then go to switch it over and they inform me that I have to tie up for 3 months minimum contract (there was only 2 months left by this point) and take a 12 month line rental agreement which wasn't explained on my first call.
I thought screw BT I am going to cancel it, and it the price to do so had increased by £30 even though there was a month less on the contract. This makes no sense. So i thought go to hell BT and cancelled my direct debit.
Since then I have not had any correspondence from BT even though they have my email address. As i no longer reside at the address.

Obviously this means that there are 2 months out standing with them and by all means they were will probably escalate it to debt collectors and even court. Now i don't want a bad credit rating. Will this had a bad effect? Should I contact BT and try and get it all sorted or let it go.

Please not I was promised 10mb broadband was paying for up to 20mb and only got 4mb. i complained they worked their magic and i was recieving 16mb for a whole day before it went back to 4mb. I complained several times and they did nothing. Always blaming the lines in my area/house even though they had already demonstrated to me that I could get 16mb??? Their customer service is awful and they lied to me on several occasions. Surely they want a customer for life not for 12 months? All I am going to do is spread the word about how much I hate them and advise everyone I know to never deal with them. Which will probably cost them £0000.00's during my whole life as an average customer spends like £200 a year with them. What should i do

New legislation is coming in to make those PPI claims companies redundant. Lenders are legally obliged to repay PPI earnings if you can prove you did not need them.

After that you lost me, sorry.

Does PPI include mortgages?

PPI is a product that acts as insurance against missed payments, though many people who were sold it didn't need it because they couldn't use it (e.g. self-employed). It is distinct from your mortgage itself, but I'd guess that the payments for it and your mortgage aren't itemised, just lumped into a single figure.

They explained it all on Radio 4 Moneybox recently, you might still be able to pick it up on iPlayer :)

Without wanting to derail the thread, how did people not know what PPI is? I'm 20, never had a loan in my life (ignoring credit card & student loan) yet before the stupid adverts on TV started I could tell you exactly what PPI was!

Bully for you, I don't get what your point is though. OP already knew what PPI is.
