Cooling info for a Q6600 please.

btw.. is there a possibility that the temp detectors could be flawed? U have the corsiar h50 and when I increase the pump speed, (theoretically allowing better cooling performance), the stated temps run at 5 degrees higher.. :S

Sorry, I don't quite know what you mean.

Ok I have posted your pic directly in this thread

Since you bought an OEM PC (PC World) overclocking factor can be taken out as you can only run your cpu at stock speed if I am correct. Also Q6600 multi seems to be set at x9. This suggests that EIST and C1E are disabled in bios.

Since you are getting idle temps of 71C roughly at stock speed, it seems to suggest again poor cooling. I think you may be using intel stock cooler which isn't seated properly.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was no thermal compound between Q6600 and heatsink by the purple shirts.

Does your heatsink have fan on it?

He may be mixed up with me, lol.. U may have high internal temperatures too, with no push/pull at the front and back and only a side fan. can you pop a photo of the case up.

I'd be tempted to first of all give that cooler a good going over with a paint brush and some air :) its very dirty.

+ would an ac7 fit with the fan where it is??

I tried to clean it this morning using a toothbrush and a pin to get under the fan in between the metal bits, but it was very fiddley I couldn't get the thing off so I had to get around everything.

Wouldnt hurt to give the rest a good clean either, its very dusty inside (smoker??) also where the fan is, im not sure if another cpu cooler would fit.

Yes I smoke. That fan on the side panel can be removed to fit a new cooler it doesnt seem to make a slight bit of differnce anyway.

I am first of all surprised that case doesn't have any back exhaust. No wonder the heat is accumulating within the case so much.

I would suggest buying a new PC case, new cooler and good thermal compound like MX-4 or IC Diamond.

The dust built up is astonishing:eek:

Does the heatsink move about when pushing or pulling it slightly?

Does the intel stock fan sucks or blow away the air from the heatsink? If it blows away, then the side fan needs to be pulling air out of the case. If stock fan is sucking air then side fan needs to suck air in aswell.

However with the latter setup, you are just warming up the airflow inside the case and this may well also lead to higher temperature inside the case.

edit: beaten to it.

Yes a new case and cooler is the ideal solution. PCW computers are utterly terrible!

Those Intel coolers push air over the HS so it want a fan blowing air onto it. The PSU will be your exhaust fan.

PC world just likes to dupes unsuspecting customers:mad:

It would be a laugh if one of the experienced overclocker went into PC world and a salesman approached him thinking this guy doesn't know anything and trying to dupe him into buying their crap hardware.

Upon this the overclocker starts talking about all kind of computer technology leaving the salesman dumbfounded:p.

From there on I can imagine salesman would just walk away and staying away from the overclocker guy:D

I've done that once before after my step-dad insisted on buying one from there :D
