Can we PLEASE ban people trying to cheat at ridiculous competitions?

It's kinda tempting, but seems a little harsh... as sometimes, just sometimes, the OP will actually have the best entry.

Its not harsh at all. They should be banned, beaten and then burned.

Even if they had the 'best' entry, that is subjective and they are still cheating.

It's getting ridiculous though, there's one every week at the minute, band, baby, sister, girlfriend blahblahblahblalal

:/

and in that case let the best entry speak for itself, asking a forum of computer related people to vote on a baby comp, that lets be honest none of have any interest in is not in the spirit of the competition.

Can they just be locked up in a room with me instead? :D

True, but giving exposure, whilst perhaps a little unfair, people can vote for themselves. IF the OP has the best <whatever> in the competition, then people can vote for them.

LEt's not be naive and think that other entrants aren't doing the thing.

I'm not defending the "just vote for me because you can" entries, but if people have a look at the entries (this is not a good thread for this example) and the OP's is genuinely the best, then I don't see the problem. Voting simply for the sake of boosting the OP if they aren't the best then I agree it's somewhat disingenuous and unfair.

I mean ban the threads not the OP.

If the OP has the best entry they'll win on merit.

I get you. In this case I agree entirely, as you cannot see the other entries.

However, had we been shown all the competition, and had the opportunity to vote by seeing the others in the competition, and we felt the OP's was the best, then surely that's acceptable no?

Bear in mind I am playing devil's advocate slightly. :)

I'm with Freefaller.

If the OP had posted up a link to the competition, pointing out which was his sprog but asking people to vote for whichever they think is best (and pointed out that the text messages cost 25p + standard charge) people wouldn't have minded... but it's the vote4mekthanksbye that annoys me.
