Oops, i've hit a car!

How does settling a fault accident outside insurance without declaration, increase annual premiums? This isn't a dig or anything, I'm genuinely curious :)

Well for a start, people involved in potentially fault accidents are getting nice cheap insurance as they're withholding information about their true risk potential when asked 'Have you had any accidents?' and they say 'No'

You only seem to post in this section to point out how argumentative we all are, broken record ++ if you like, it's getting boring. If you supplement your constant need to point this out with actually helping people then perhaps i would feel a little different about it.

The above situation is totally different to a regular motors member (myself) pointing out something in the motors forum e.g. (your constant need to rip into the regulars for telling it as it is).

Rightfully so the memebers of the Photography section would feel the same if i decided to gatecrash the forum and tell them all to stop acting the way they do.

I've posted in two threads for the benefit of the OP, MikeH. Both times giving an 'outsiders' perspective on how ridiculous the shenanigans come across and how sensible advice is never given despite his pleas. I'm more of a Motors reader, an avid one at that. If something comes up that I'm particularly knowledgeable about(not often enough) then I'll chip my 2p in. Same way you're chipping your cents in now. I'm an avid trainer and follower of the bodybuilding section, you don't see me telling anyone with a bit of criticism to bugger off and not come back?

You chaps blatantly can't see that you're in the wrong, despite many 'outsiders' wedging in and stating it.

sensible advice is never given despite his pleas.

And yet you are having a go at me for:

a) Giving sensible, constructive advice in an insurance thread
b) Expressing irritation at 'lol did you have sex with the woman' replies

Puzzling.

btw, I don't think Mike exactly 'pleads' for 'sensible advice'.

Yea its all us, not him which is why he has an entire subforum named after his tendancies to come up with bonkers plans that never happen on a completely seperate forum none of us post on.

If I had an accident, my fault or not, I would tell the insurance. You don't know but It could come back to haunt you.

If you get refused insurance, could other insurers find this out and potentially blacklist you?

Wait, where did I have a go at you for giving sensible advice? I said it's fine to have a bit of a laugh, the guys had an accident, lighten the mood.

Your advice is always appreciated and you're renowned for exactly that, even in the MikeH threads I was talking about.

My gripe was merely with you essentially stating oh jeez, here we go, more GD B.S.... Where as you're fine with Motors B.S. Despite it being somewhat dumbfounding to the the rest of us.

I was going to say :p

Just because it generally has more intellect and analysis behind it doesn't mean it's anymore pleasing to read than 'TTIUWP'.

We shall agree to disagree, just see where I'm coming from.

I'm really starting to worry now, as i cannot get a hold of this lady and she's mostly likely called her Insurance company and has got the ball rolling.

Can we still stop the Insurance companies if we decided to do it outside of insurance?

The lady finally gave me a call and she has agreed to doing it out of insurance DEPENDANT on cost.

She's going to get a couple of quotes and then get back to me, I have 1 already @ 475 to get the bumper replaced (too much?!) and waiting for a 2nd.

Hopefully her one won't be too expensive but we will see - can I ring Direct Line and say we are doing it ourselves and then call them back if we decide not too?

You don't screw around with insurance companies because they will sieze any chance they get to not pay out to you in the future and material non-disclosure is an easy one for them to grab on.

Don't give them an excuse - play it by the book.

I agree , when dealing with insurance companies remember “Uberrima fides”

In other words if you don’t tell them they will screw you , even if they don’t explicitly ask you a question if its a material fact they can void the contract.

You could, but you don't want to really.

You have to declare the accident regardless of how you settle it. Which kind of defeats the point of settling outside of the insurance process for the reasons you MIGHT want to but seeing as you already contacted them you have no choice in the matter.

Well no, not really. The point in settling outside insurance is that your insurer incurs no costs therefore you do not lose your NCB.

But still obtain the fault mark which could well affect premiums after. For example some companies want an extra £200 from me for having a 100% non-fault declared. Luckily I have found someone who wont load the premium at all but others might not be in that position.

Someone hit me on a roundabout, took out my rear nearside suspension and wheel. Exchanged details then they buggered off. I managed to hobble to a side street but then was left without a car so I called my insurance company to ask advice. Probably shouldn't have done that, but anyway. 100% the other party's fault.

Cost my insurance company nothing but they still tried to add £100 to my premium at renewal. With a bit of wailing and gnashing of teeth I managed to argue some kind of "loyalty discount" - basically got that amount taken off... but still.

I'm just supposedly statistically more likely to be involved in an accident now, since some stupid woman couldn't drive properly :(

You are, as you've demonstrated you are not as adept at avoiding oncoming morons as some other people :p
