I've done it, put deposit down on a car finally! - Yaris

Good choice op. I must admit to preferring the look of the previous shape Yaris but so long as it handles and goes well, which it should, then it's a not bad place to start your car ownership journey. I'm not expert on depreciation but if looked after that should still hold decent value when you're ready to trade up ;)

cba to read the whole thread, but just came in to say congratulations Raymond. Glad you finally got the car that you wanted even if you did go through every other possible option ;)

Enjoy :)

I think for a first car, and after what you were looking for it hits the mark perfectly.

Enjoy it! :)

I remember my first car.. clapped out Fiat Uno 60_S. 1st cars aren't what they used to be! :D :p

I find it amsuing that the choice was between this and a Z4 :p

he was only considering the Z4 because he thought it looked nice.

Not in the quest for driving BMWs ultimate driving machine.

As a first car, i think the 1.8 yaris fits the bill perfectly, much better than the Z4 :)

Interior looks nice, I just don't understand why the dials and stuff are in the middle.

When do you pick it up Ray? Or do you have it already?

Picking it up on Saturday.

As for why the dials are in the middle...erm, apart from a design aesthetic perspective, it opens up another storage space behind the wheel. That is also a compartment for storing things.

I actually don't mind that, i find in normal cars with the dials where it is behind the steering wheel, i end up looking down into it, meaning taking my eyes off the road, even for a split second to check the dials. With it higher up in the dash, I am looking slightly off to the side but still see out the windscreen. That aspect I like.

How are either of these cars suitable for a first car?

Hard to justify but I can't believe the OP wont regret jumping straight in at that kind of level, but if he did then rolled it as soon as he put his foot down he might regret going to that level so quickly....

Is it still a holographic display like the original yaris?

I remember reading the literature on that, saying the display looks like something big and far away so your eyes don't need to re-focus between the display and the road. Can't say I've ever noticed my eyes taking a concerning time to re-focus though.

Looks like quite a nice little car. Performance should be 'adequate' as it's your first car, and gives you a good base to improve upon come upgrade time. :)

However, I cannot abide these horrible interiors with bits in places where they simply shouldn't be. For the same reason I went for a Suzuki Swift Sport over a Twingo 133. The Swift had a normal layout/instrument bin, the Twingo, whilst likely being the better car to drive, had a gash interior. Same with MINIs. Bleurgh.
