A Toronto couple are defending their decision to keep their infant's sex a secret in order to allow the child to develop his or her own gender identity.

Kathy Witterick and David Stocker have been widely criticised for imposing their ideology on four-month-old Storm.

The family were the subject of a recent profile in the Toronto Star newspaper.

In an e-mail, Ms Witterick wrote that the idea that "the whole world must know what is between the baby's legs is unhealthy, unsafe, and voyeuristic"

WHat right have they to screw that kids life up with there warped ideas

Its just wrong.

Not something I personally agree with, but at the end of the day we, as parents, are responsible for making many decisions on the upbringing of our children. Is this really all that different from religions, political ideologies, attitudes towards race, gender etc?

Why u hatin?

Seriously I don't see anything wrong. Unconventional maybe, but not necessarily wrong.

Feel sorry for your children if you have any. This is recipe for mental anguish and who knows what identity problems for the poor kid, physiological experiment at the end of the day with their own child.

Canadians tbh

Just add indeterminate sexual ambiguity as a national characteristic along with their flappy heads and beady little eyes.

That's what I was referring to above. The article isn't clear. The parents are keeping the genders secret from the kids themselves if that makes any sense.

no there are going to let the child become what it wants with no normal positive gender re-enforcments that most children experience on growing up,

"good boy eating your dinner up", "who's a clever little girl" etc etc.

How long before the kid will see someone naked on t.v and say yeah i got one of those so i'm a boy, it's not something you really need to be told.
