What is it about computer geeks and Star Trek? I don't get it.

It's set in the future where computers and whatnot count even more than today. Plus it's always depicted as much more utopiac, fairer, I think poor old ugly spotty computer nerds imagine they'd fare better in such a universe. Fantasy I suppose, though their interest does board on the clinically obsessed at times.
