Life in housing scheme in Kilmarnock (Scotland)

So that one scumbag got 8 months in Prison, probably a friggin Holiday camp compared to what he's used to.

I read that "ken" was something used by the upper classes and it filtered down. Dunno if thats true or not though.

Im just amazed at the state of the houses, and the fact that they let people in to film in these ****holes. OOh the police have just shown up and one scummer is diving out the window. Just drop a few daisy cutters on the area and be done with it..:p

im pretty sure they got paid for doing so, they then got paid for interviews with newspapers, etc.

a few hundred quid to these people is like winning the lottery.

thats where it came from i would imagine, but they have now shortened it to wayne.

do any of you know how "ken" came about? i thought it was mainly a fife, edinburgh type thing.

I'm in Northern Ireland and pronounce it "wee-yin". But that's because I spent most of my teens and early 20s in a particular part of the country. Moved up to the North coast to be closer to my grand parents who're country folk and they pronounce it as "way-yin". They would say "thon wayin" but I would say it "thon weein". But we both drop the Y of yin.

What age is this "Marvin" guy? He looks to be in his 40's at least but i think it said he's only in his 20's? Drugs for the win. And this other midget Chris who's 20 but looks about 12, and thinks he can act hard despite the fact that he's built like the side of a Bus Ticket.

marvin is early 30's i think, yet pulled an 18 year old smack addict.

chris is comedy gold mate, as said before wee man syndrome at its finest. he should honestly get his own show, i cant help but laugh at him and his attitude.

This Scots/English connection is quite understandable. Ken is derived from Middle English kennen and ultimately from Old English cennan, to make known, also being connected with Old Norse kenna. Ken is obsolete in English, apart from the beyond my ken meaning, but it is alive and thriving in Scots, although the verb knaw, Scots for know, also exists.
Kenna was once the common negative form of ken. Now it is usually dinnae ken or dinna ken, translated into English as don’t know. In spoken Scots this often becomes dinny ken or d’ken.

From a quick google.

Anyone else amazed that they mostly drive around in decent or pimped out cars and seem to have 50" tv's. It's getting to be something of a staple of the under class.

In the course of my work I regularly enter into houses in dodgy areas and it never ceases to amaze me that even though nobody in the house has a job, there are playstations, xbox 360s, nintendo wii and massive tv's in almost every room and don't forget the sky subscription with multiple extra boxes and every channel available.

Makes me wonder why I can't afford the things that people with no jobs can.

I live in North Ayrshire, 15 minutes away from, "The Scheme." I watched the two episodes that were on last year and I tried to watch the third... until the freakshow with the ranger topped started shooting up and kissing the camera. I was actually sitting at the desk watching it on Iplayer, that was enough for me.

As Sonny mentioned. Scotland is a complete hole!! Sure there's nice areas, but they're few and far between. However it appears It's not just Scotland, the whole of Britain is stinking. Watching those binge drinking shows, night cops etc etc. Newcastle, Birmingham etc. All the big cities in England also appear to have "scum" out to get smashed every night and cause fights. Look at Jeremy Kyle for instance, there not all Scottish on that show and everyone of them is scum.

We're a nation of binge drinkers and idiots, MP's robbing tax payers and as someone else commented earlier. The rich keep getting richer and the poor get poorer.

Look at France for instance, they all drink wine with there meals... the majority drink sensibly. There's no one out in the streets puking at 3am eating dog meat out of plastic cartons.

Anyway, getting off track a bit here. I suppose my point is. Yes Scotland is a hole, however it's not just Scotland it's 80% of the UK. Our culture is an absolute joke.

Agree 100 % with this

Theyre claiming every benefit under the sun (i was going to say probably but its obvious that they have to be). Quite sickening :(

The problem is they all have poor role models. Peer pressure and following the 'norm' of thier friends is the only way they know how to behave as they are all surrounded by complete idiots.

I grew up in a very poor area of Glasgow with similiar junkies and complete tools like in this show. My mum however wasn't and she managed to get me enroled in a school in a good area and keep me out of trouble.

We eventually moved away and I feel lucky to have parents who actually cared.

i didnt see a single car worth over £10K, and as i mentioned before chris's family has a "mobility car", basically free due to disability benefits.

tv's were never 50 inches either, one of them did have a nice one though im guessing 42 incher, im assuming a lot of this stuff is "stolen goods", ive had people offer me 42 inchers, mobile phones, laptops, etc for £100. even a mac.

also i dont think any of them had sky just freeview, but you can also get that illegally too, known as card sharing, etc.

i thought everybody knew this?
