How come virtually all MOBO and nearly all GPU manufacturers are from the Far East?

For example for MOBO's

Gigabyte - Taiwanese
MSI - Taiwanese
Asus - Taiwanese
BioStar - Taiwanese
Asrock - Taiwanese

The only American manufacturers are EVGA and Intel but they only make a few models.

Lets look at GPU's

Palit - Chinese
PNY - American
Zotac - Chinese
Asus - Taiwanese
Point of View - Dutch
Gigabyte - Taiwanese
MSI - Taiwanese
KFA2 - Chinese
EVGA - American
Gainward - Taiwanese
Sapphire - Chinese

Once again almost complete Taiwanese and Chinese domination.

What happened to all the American manufacturers??!

It's no different to anything else, pick up almost anything around you and read where it was made, it's likely to be the far east. Things come down to cost at the end of the day.

American Desktop/Laptop manufacturers are still doing well

HP
Dell
Gateway
eMachines
Compaq

VS

Asus
Acer
Lenovo

American in name only.

The products they sell (or at least the components in them) are manufactured in the far east.

The biggest names in the USA, Intel and Apple, have their products manufactured abroad.

See the difference in cost to manufacture the iPad 2 in China and the USA:

How Much Would The iPad 2 Cost If It Was Made In The U.S.A?

Cheap skilled labour, closeness to resources, lax taxation laws. There are loads of fabrication plants outside the far east though.

probably because people from the far east are very meticulous, hard working and diligent and so not have the problem of western greed so are prepared to work for less
