managed to overclock my cpu to 3.74 in the bios.. seems stable but if i try to increase it even slightly the pc locks up lol, is this a sign that I need to up the stock voltage? If so what would be the recommended stable voltage setting without destroying the chip?

thanks guys

If it's a decent chip I would assumed it would easily reach 4.5 as i'm running a 955 at 4.3, had it running at 4.5 but temperatures were too high for my liking.

I run my overclock at 1.45, try that and see if it helps.

Thanks for the info dude. Will give it a shot after work.. is there any form of safety feature or is that voltage known to be safe? :p

It's been safe for me and i've had 2 Phenoms though 1.5 would be the max limit i'd go to however some people run it slightly higher. I'd also watch the temperatures, the official limit on these is 62c.

No worries mate, just remember to keep an eye on the temps. Post back with the results once you have it stable!

Ahh.. finally worked out how to change the multiplier lol! ok I did a test to see if it worked ok n it did, only took it from 3.74 to 3.85.. checked the Core voltage on CPU-Z it says 1.472 V

Is that ok? I presume thats stock as I haven't touched it lol.
Idle temp at the moment is 28.5C on all cores

load temp is what to watch for. Run prime 95 for 4 hours while running HWMonitor to check min/max temps :)

Your multiplier is unlocked since it's the Black Edition so do it in small increments and a quick 10 minute run or so of prime95. If you've pushed it too far and it crashes drop it down a notch and try again.

right ok.. was running prime95 for about 3 - 4 minutes at about 4.3ghz and i got the all might BSOD! :( what was strange was my temperature during the test risen from 29c to 42c :) so at least my temps are good. any other reasons why it BSOD? need a bump in voltage?

*edit* Ive turned it down to 4180MHz Multiplier is x 19.0

You must have either an amazing chip or cooler if you hit 42c under prime95 lol. Go back to 4.3 and up the voltage to 1.5 and see how it does there, if it crashes again go to 4180MHz.

Seems like you're getting weird frequencies if you're doing the multiplier. Mine goes in increments so it's like 3.8, 3.9, 4.0 etc., not some dodgy half's lol. :p

It's always in the BIOS but you might have to thoroughly look for it as it might be hidden somewhere for whatever reason. On my ASRock it's on the 1st page but you have to scroll down a little. Make sure you've turned off Cool 'N Quite or whatever it's called too.

Excellent potential there for serious overclocking. Cool 'N Quiet is designed so that the CPU uses less power when full power is not needed i.e light weight applications. It automatically adjusts the voltage too so when your CPU is overclocked and isn't doing anything, Cool 'N Quiet will reduce the voltage to it will crash. Again, just take your time with this and do it in small increments till you hit the sweet spot between performance, heat and stability.

Ah ok :-) Think ive found the cpu voltage.. but abit worried about changing it, because as soon as i pushed it up to 1.47 the text went yellow (as a warning?)

here take a look
