There was a comment I read recently, suggesting that because the new MG (cough) was restricted to 120mph, that it would be given a lower group rating.

Now maybe that's not true, but if it is, does open up an interesting line of thought, i.e. for those of us who've given up driving faster due to the sheer amount of gatsos and speed restrictions, that maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal.

So, what's your views on this. If for example, your insurance company offered you a substantially lower premium (e.g. 1/3rd off) would you chose to restrict your car to say 100mph max?
Personally I would.

My cars engine already does that for me already, so yes I would :p

If the discount were that large it would be a no brainer but I wonder what proportion of drivers ever exceed 100 mph. I think it would be very low and the vast majority of accidents must involve cars travelling at less than this so would mean a 100 mph limit may not actually be that attractive to insurance companies.

I couldnt care less if my car was limited to 100mph. If anything though it might encourage me to nail it more often safe in the knowledge I wont get carried away into 3 figure speeds..

If there was a decent enough slash on the insurance price, I wouldn't be fussed about a 120mph limit, i'm never going to manage that anyway :p

I would be happy to have my car restricted to 100mph, top end is no faster than 105mph anyway :p (on paper, never driven it at that speed).

I believe they are currently producing a diesel engine to come out either late 2011/early 2012.

And I think limiting the top speed is a great idea!

I'd be fine with being restricted to 100mph! Times I have been in a vehicle exceeding that speed I can count on one hand...
