10 most 'liked' car brands on Facebook

I'm not sure its chavvy as such but what exactly is it for? What do you get out of being part of the '5,400,231 people like this'?

No idea, I don't 'like' anything.

I suppose people do it so they can share their interests with others or if there is something they find funny.

Does clicking Like share your interests with others then?

People can see what you 'like' depending on your privacy settings. You can also click peoples profiles and it shows what 'likes' you have in common.

If you "like" an official group then you can get updates from them directly to your news feed. For example, I like a load of bands on there and often get updates about new songs, gigs and tours. Also works for a lot of companies. I'd imagine most of those car makes are official groups regularly updating about what's happening within them.

Yeah when you Like something on facebook you start getting information about that particular page on your feed. It's a simple way of advertising.

Sometimes can acctually work very well, I have liked a few pages and they post some nice stuff.

Pretty much how Twitter works.

BMW put a lot of effort into their social media presence. I like them on Facebook, and the articles / stories they post up are interesting and relevant. There are regular competitions, and the brand does make an effort to engage you as a consumer.

Facebook snobbery on here is incredible. If they're old enough, some would probably still look at a fax machine with a deep sense of mistrust.

Yes, they see it on their news feed. A few times when I've 'liked' games, TV shows or movies other people have commented about it and it's led to a conversation. That's the point of Facebook, surely?

Totally agree, never been able to get into the whole Farcebook thing. I know it is probably a massive generalisation, but IME it seems to be more popular amongst the less internet/computer savvy people e.g. my parents, my wife and a small handful of friends who (annoyingly) don't seem to use email or IM, but rely on Facebook to do both.

It's popular amongst everyone. It's a tool that can do nearly everything.

The one worrying thing is just how much it seems most of the web presence of many companies now seems to rely on not the internet, but one privately owned and operated internet site..

You look at it as if it's taking over the internet :p

It's only as large as you want it to be. Despite how big it is, you still control what you want to do on it, how you want to use it, how other people view yourself.

If you want to use it as a chat messenger tool you can, if you want to use it like a twitter app which lets you know about what companies are upto you can.

Personally I just use it to keep in touch with friends and to perv on girls. Got the occassional feeds coming through like Top Gear.

Plus the fact it goes straight to your phone helps when someone is sat on facebook and can't be arsed to pick up their phone to text you :)

I find the opposite. Most of my Facebook contacts are from working in IT all over the world, it's a good way to stay in touch. My parents are about the only people that aren't on it! They use Skype.

It's probably a massive generalisation but I find most people who don't 'get' Facebook and are vocal about it normally don't have many friends, still live in their hometown and are a bit socially challenged.
