Right. The purpose of this post is not to instigate a flame war but it just a mere personal opinion.

After pledging my allegiance to pro evo series back in the psone days i tried fifa 11 after the badly done pes2011. I was trying to see why this fifa was given very high ratings and the more i played, the more i felt that is there something im missing here. I could not pinpoint it at first but then it hit me.

Animations: Those round dropped shoulders, which have been the trademark of the series since its inception, are still there especially noticeable during entrance scenes. The zombie looking players in close up. The running animation looks weird at times.

Gameplay: This did it for me. I like to play the game on highest AI difficulty and even then i was able to net goals with ease. Yes on higher difficulties the tricks are harder to carry out but to be honest they don't look nice and seem disjointed.

Curve. The curve in this game looks very abnormal, you can't bend ball that much. Im talking about that if you have the right trigger to tweak the shot you can see the ball literally go in a boomerang fashion in a U-turn towards goal.

Replays: Im not sure what you guys think but replays are sometimes nightmare to see, the camera controls and save option is just odd and don't go with the flow.

After playing this game time and again i just simply got bored and wanted to go back to pes. so i started searching and found PES6 which was the first pro evo to be released for the pc as far as i know. I got a good copy for 1 pound, applied user made patches and started playing. Immediately i felt a difference, a game 6 years old, the player movement, passing, curl, swerve all felt right. The tricks are not many but are a joy to pull off and see them again in replays. Take messi for example, i just held the R2 button whilst moving left and then right, the defender followed me but fell to the ground after i shifted direction.

If you can look past the visuals which mind you still look pretty nice with anisotropic filtering. This is a great game for football fans. If you have not played it, get a copy and try it. There is a plethora of player mods and online servers still arranging matches.

The feeling of edge of the seat moments are still intact in pes 6. I wish that konami just updates the graphics engine on this game and release it with a fifa license again.

Im gonna stick with this until the new pes2012 comes out but if it is not improved then im staying here for the time being. Peace.

I thought Pro Evo was already on the way down by the time 6 came out and ended up switching by FIFA 08. As much as I do enjoy FIFA though, at some point it stops being fun to me, I certainly can't play it over and over like I can with Pro Evo. PES 2011 I've found to be a really good game, after some time with it. But then even the best versions took some time to adjust to at first, the difference now being they don't have the goodwill brought on by a few outstanding versions prior.

Both series have already peaked for me, despite that I think we're in a better position now than ever before as there are two perfectly viable options so it comes down to personal choice.

I really enjoyed PES 2010 on the PC, with all the mods you could get and various patches. Then came PES 2011, and the whole feel of the game was different but not in a good way. The ball now moves like it is stuck to the feet of the players and shifts from player to player unnaturally and the whole game feels slow and almost a chore to play. I tried the FIFA 11 demo on the PC and found it miles better, and reminds me of the things I liked about PES 2010 which are now gone in 2011.

I loved PES 6 on PC. I would prefer to play FIFA 11 though (but I only have a PC so I can't). Even if FIFA 12 for PC is the same as FIFA 11 on XBox, I would be happy because FIFA 11 is so good.

FIFA 11 on PC is FIFA 10 + World Cup so it's not really the same.

Fifa's animations are streets ahead of even the latest PES, never mind 6.

As for scoring on the highest AI with ease, you must be a wunderkind as I can barely even get a shot away, never mind score frequently. Lucky if I get 3 shots on goal per game.

I've never seen these banana shots you speak of either.

(I used to love PES by the way, have always prefered it over FIFA up until the 2011 versions)

Just a minor correction, but PES3 was actually the first PES released on PC.

Good post anyway, although I have to say I still think PES5 is the best one ever released. I prefer the pace, and the defending is much more difficult because it's so easy to give away niggly fouls (which I understand a lot of people totally hated). I personally liked that as it meant you had to think a bit more tactically when defending.

just found FIFA 11 in PC World for £9 so thought i would have a go, been more of a PES man myself in the past but ratings on the latest fifa look good :)

I had FIFA 98 on PC as my first game then went to PES 5 then PES 6, currently have PES 2009 and thinking of geting PES2012. I've always found PES to be a better approximation of the feel of football in a game and less in your face commercialisation. Graphically PES is in need of a serious overhaul in many areas and it still suffers from a lack of licences. Can you tell I'm a PES fan? :D

My problem with FIFA is not the game itself but more EA who with the exception of 2011 continue to push substandard versions of the game onto the PC. Only with 2011 did we actually get the same superior match engine as the Xbox360 and PS3 versions have had for many years.

EA have been promoting FIFA2012 with some kind of new physics engine with unrivalled levels of realisms, but guess what....

PC isn't going to get it

I was a pes gamer PS1/ps2 then on PC pes4/5/6.

After Pes 6 they lost the plot the game was unrecoginsable and atrouious.

For me FIFA has always been crap all them PES years. However I tried fifa 10 last year and was pleased it was ok..FIFA 11 this year also. Good game not as good as PES 4/5/6 but nice gfx and playable and fun.

So, Ibought Pes 2011 for PC and I didnt really get into it. But I reinstalled it and tbh it aint that bad its not too far from the old PES 4/5/6 games tbh.

I think if you give it time it can be fun. Sadly its harder to mod and you cant get as many stadiums as the superpatches on PC for PEs 4/5/6. These PEs 2011 patches seem to crash and cause errors a lot. I have no idea why this is.

Anyway. I play FIFA 11 on my ps3. but now thats broke Im playing PEs 2011 on PC again. It aint bad game at all. It offers more freedom than FIFA. FIFA feels kinda cosntrained in the gameplay. Its hard to descirbe but passing and moving to any inch on the pitch on PES seems and feels and is possible. FIFA moves and passes feel so much more cosntrained...PES seems to have more freedom in movement, passign and shooting.

Hopefully PEs 2012 will be back to its best
