New MG restricted to 120mph, gets lower group rating, thoughts?

If you want to overtake with minimum risk then yes.

And if someone else who isnt paying attention pulls out on you whilst you are undertaking this 100MPH+ overtake past 4 or 5 cars? Which based on my experience of driving standards isn't an unlikely occurance.

I understand the idea of the faster you complete the overtake and less time you spend in the oncoming lane the better, but at 100+ I think the risk of not having enouh time to react if someone else does something stupid outweighs the benefit.

I was merely thinking back to this morning being behind a bus doing 30-40 mph with no one even trying to go past. So I went past them all as quick as I could, this wasn't to drive recklessly for the rest of the trip but to enable a decent rate of progress.

Each car was too close to the one in front to enable anything less than a full overtake.

I would not want a hard limit of 100mph as it's very easy to hit that speed without realising.

I'm rather concerned that you could be hitting 100mph "without realising". It rather suggests a lack of attention.

Or a particularly powerful car - if you've got your foot to the floor concentrating on a safe overtake and you are driving a powerful car 100mph can often be reached in mere seconds.

Its almost at that point in Australia

I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up following suit.

Good.

Strict speed limits wouldn't stop me enjoying any of my cars, none of which are exactly slow (one is a bit bonkers even).

I appreciate that, but you should know your car and drive it accordingly. If you're overtaking in a car like that, then you just don't need to put your foot down so far. If it's a case of overtaking cars doing 40, then if you can't get by them doing 60 then maybe you oughtn't be overtaking at all.

What's the rush?

I do wonder what planet people live on if they are happy to be stuck at 30mph on an NSL road.

You can overtake at 80mph in a 60mph "SPECS" zone and not get points as your average can be lower.

100mph overtake is not 100mph round a supermarket car park.

Take the bus.

What's the rush?

Driving around here, you quite often have to be quick to be safe. More often than not there is convey of trucks on NSL roads sitting at 40. Would it be safe for me to toddle past them at 60?

I think not, the quicker I get past them the better. Plus I would rather not sit at 40 for the 30mile stretch of road.

If for example, your insurance company offered you a substantially lower premium (e.g. 1/3rd off) would you chose to restrict your car to say 100mph max?

Surely restricting a car would be very easy to undo, and the insurance company would never know (unless they took it for a 110mph test drive :D).

All depends on how its done though? Could be quite expensive to undo?

I would also imagine the insurance company would check it if you were ever in a crash.

If I am on the wrong side of the road, my foot is in the carpet. I want to spend as little there as is possible.

But yet you'd be happy to smash into a 100MPH limiter if you needed the extra few MPH to make a save overtake?

So what should I do? Spend the next 20 miles at 30mph ?

The times I play the tortoise & hare so I decide to overtake several vehicles on an A road, speed off and then 10 minutes up the road they all pull up behind me.
The times I've driven down the motorway (and still do) passing 20 or so cars and then suddenly realise I'm about 30 seconds in front of the first one I overtook.
I'm 53 and I still haven't learnt what a dick I am.
I would gladly have my car restricted to 80 mph.
