Congratulations adamus5!
Please forward the new theme to me by email. (hotmail address in trust)

Very gritty image - like it a lot. Great sharpness and contrast. Have to say that the text over it is an unnecessary distraction, though.

This is a great shot, your lighting works well to as fill on the wielder and the B&W style adds impact. No need for a huge signature which obscures the image so have marked it down accordingly.

Not a lot to say it is a fantastic image.

bulb66
It's an OK image, but I'm not wowed by it. The link between the metal ball and the plant isn't quite there for me.

The green against the silver works really well in your shot. I'm not sure having your reflection in the image is desirable though.

It is an interesting shot and the contrast between the smooth ball and textured plant works nice, but the reflections is distracting.

cokecan72
Very simple photo. Whilst I can see where you're going with the theme, you could make it much more appealing visually with a different composition.

A great play on words and nicely fits the theme.

A good choice for the theme and well shot if a little boring a subject.

DGBVIPER
The composition isn't really doing much for me. The B&W conversion isn't really making anything pop, either.

I feel that your B&W conversion lessens the contrast we would have seen between the green leaves and the rusted metal. I think you might have been better to leave it as shot.

The B&W is very flat and needs some punch and a bit of re composition would help as the background is distracting.

Feriso
Took me a second to work out what it was I was looking at, but it's quite a nice image.

Great processing and composition. As a candid I think it's spot on and has relevance to the theme.

Great texture and composition and a good choice for the theme I like it a lot.

greedy123
The DoF is so minute here I haven't really the faintest idea what it is I'm looking at. The B&W isn't really doing much for me in this instance either, I'm afraid.

Thought we'd have more knives this round. It's very abstract in it's composition and there is lots of room on the right with not much going on due to the shallow DOF.

I am really struggling to work out what it is and the tiny DOF really does take away any texture that might say it is metal.

GSXRMovistar
I can see the link to the theme coming across nicely, but I can't say the scene is particularly stunning.

I like the post processing but feel it's working against you here. It renders the image flat and kills the metal focus throughout.

The whole image is very flat and the appearance of metal has been lost.

Jaket
The metal spike isn't really in focus. I can't say the subject itself or the composition is doing much for me - there's a very distracting background. Sorry!

A tough one to judge. Composition needs work and the background is cluttered and distracting. Try different angles next time and times of the day as it will greatly improve the image.

You have missed the focal point a little, the metal item seems secondary to the very cluttered background and the timber takes priority.

Kamakazie!
Could you in future submit a larger photo directly into the thread so that we don't have to go delving through flickr in search of one? I'm not sure this is working for me as it is - the slanting composition is odd, and I think it's something that might have more impact from the front.

A simple capture but from the angle and distance it's hard to make out the materials. As an abstract it works better in blocks of colour.

Its to dark to appreciate the material really needs a re composition. There are lots of good example shots of the welsh assembly online.

Lucklessloser
Well it's definitely metal, but as a photo it's neither technically or artistically interesting. What are we supposed to be looking at, exactly?

Quite a plain shot overall. Composition needs work and I think more thought on the either the DOF or post processing could enhance the image.

This needs a lot of work to make it some what more interesting, currently it literally is just a picture of a wheel.

Namistai
It's quite dark and generally in need of some love in post processing. Not far off, but not quite there.

A nice and simple shot that is very pleasing to look at. The theme feels lost amongst a nice landscape shot.

A nice shot with huge amounts of atmosphere but the theme is a little lost.

Nozz
Good image with a strong link to the theme. The scene begs for a little more control to really go that extra mile, but I can imagine that may well not have been possible.

Excellent colour and perfectly timed shot. Great work.

Great shot and spot on for the theme.

robertgilbert86
Interesting image, but the composition isn't working that well for me - the cut off at the right, mainly. I'd probably have chosen to go in for a closer view...

Excellent take on the theme but there is a problem with the image. A block of colour running through the frame?

Its good on theme but there is something about the composition that isn’t quite working, maybe a closer look in would be better.

Rojin
Very eye-catching image. I like it.

I like the contrast and you have nailed the DOF. Theme wise, there is some doubt in my mind that Metal was the first choice.

It took me a while to work out it was metal but it is a really nice image still.

Sillyswede
There's nothing that particularly jumps out at me with this one, but it's not bad. I'm not sure the subject is really up to much.

An interesting take on the theme and it works. Overall I'd like to have seen less of the background in the lower part of the frame.

I don’t think your subject really screams metal or is overly photogenic and with such a symmetrical object the image should be the same I feel cheated that once side is cropped.

sketch145
Nice image. Well composed and lit.

A great find you have there. Some OCF thrown in as well to make that rusted wreck pop. Fantastic.

Great image, a stunning choice for the theme and the processing is very moody.

Slothmeister
Good shot. Nicely composed and with good contrast and sharpness.

Nicely framed and the sweeping lines add interest to the shot. Processing adds to your impact, well done.

A really well composed shot and the colour tone works well.

SteveOBHave
I'm not really sure what it is we're looking at. From the theme, I assume it's metal, but that's not really apparent.

Lovely abstract shapes from I'm guessing a ringflash shot into a fruit bowl.
Look like an alien interior and gets marks for surrealist endeavour.

I am stumped at what this is, but it is incredibly intriguing and would make an awesome metal band album cover although that’s all I can really relate to theme.

TeRmin8r
Not exactly a captivating image. I can see that's the end of some threaded dumbbells, but unless you knew that's what they are, the image is too dark to really see anything in particular.

Interesting texture and shapes. Very dark conversion though.

It is to dark to really appreciate the subject.

UberTiger
Interesting subject, but spoilt for me by the processing - you've got some funny haloing going on.

Great capture and right on the money for theme.

Nice choice for the theme and you have emphasized the colours well but there is some distracting haloing.

Voxination
An alright shot spoilt by the light trails (at least that's what I assume they are).

Lovely colour and highlights in this image. The sweep of light to camera left is a tad distracting though.

Really all it needs is the light trails cloning out.

Wedge
Nice idea for the image. I'm not 100% sold on the colour, but perhaps that's just me.

Wedge by name… A good capture and the B&W conversion works well to enhance the theme this month.

I like it the contrast between the wood and metal helps to emphasize the theme, just a little unsure on the blue cast.

well done adamau5, cracking shot as always.

I'll be honest, thought i would have got slightly higher than my final position, but i cant really remember the other shots.

Looking forward to the next comp

why does the ENTRIES thread always get deleted.

The photos aren't on the website so unless you have every single entry memorised (which i don't) then the comments and scores are pretty meaningless ?

Thanks for the comments. However, re the theme - are you kidding me?!? That's Ironbridge, a rather important landmark in the UK if I don't mind saying!!:p;)

Congrats Adamau5 :)

It took me a while to work out it was metal but it is a really nice image still.

The metal was always there as the core of the image, I tried a few different items as a contrast placed on it. It was supposed to make you think "what is it" and hopefully come to the conclusion that it's metal :)

Apologies but i really wasn't inspired on the theme this month and only just got an entry in at the last minute having debated not entering at all, hence the awful shot. Clearly i need to be more creative in my thinking!

Can one of the judges tell me how the 'theme' mark is calculated by the way? Many thanks!

Congrats to Adamau5 - a worthy winner :)

They get onto the results site eventually, as soon as one of the kind friendly judges bundles them into my dropbox (nudge nudge ;)). Not usually more than a day or so behind. :)

Thanks for the comments, i agree my ugly mug doesn't help it, lol. And well done Adamau5 was a winning shot indeed.
