What things do you hate about games?

I take it you installed the unofficial patch? Because that task was a piece of ****

Nope, I was playing on Xbox 360. Like I say, the bug for me was that the body wasn't where I was supposed to be and due to clipping I couldn't pick up whatever it was I was supposed to collect. I think they later patched it, but by that point the game was ruined for me.

The lack of creative thought since the era of Half Life 1 with regards to shooting games, I played Counter-Strike to death, but for SP games, a more challenging story is needed! Enemies that require more than 1 headshot is not the answer...

Games where you encounter a tricky point (usually a boss fight/complex platform section where a fall means instant death) and every time you reload the last checkpoint you get made to watch some elaborate cut-scene and can't skip it!

This is even worse when you keep dying due to a dodgy camera angle etc. :(

Reading this thread makes it clear why many modern games have a **** or non existent story line.... people just don't bother paying attention to it.

Skipping cut scenes is like watching all the action parts of a film without any of the bits in between, it just won't make any real sense.

Well, I would say most people hate cut scenes because you can't skip them when you died one minute earlier and you end up watching it five times in a row.

I don't like achievements like Professor Portal where you depend on new people or someone making a new account.

True I guess, I mainly play PC and just quick save after cut scenes. Forgot I was in consoles :p

Unskippable cutscenes and cutscenes you can't pause:
Because someone is bound to start talking to you while watching one

This.

Every time my wife is in the room, every time, she starts talking as soon as an improtant cut scene starts and takes offence if I don't pay full attention

That explains it then. It's 10x better on the PC trust me

The sheer lack of haste in any multiplayer game when reloading your weapon. Yes, granted you want to make sure you do it right, but sometimes it's infuriating when you're hiding behind a small crate under massive fire and your character decides to slowly remove the magazine, tuck it away in his pocket, get out a new one making sure there's no dust on it, gently slide it in to the gun, wipe off the thumb print he just left on the side, **** the weapon, and then SLLLLLLLLLOWLY return it to position!

Just hoy it in there, man!

Another one; games that require you to put away your primary weapon to throw a grenade. Mainly in older games like Ghost Recon, but Crysis 2 was also a culprit of this! Here you are, in a mad rush to take out some bad guys and:
"Right, best put this machine gun away, I won't be needing this for 10 seconds! Okay, here's my grenade, best take it off my belt. Right, finger goes in here.... Give it a sharp tug; that's it - primed! Okay, I think I'll throw it over there, HFFFT! WOW, WHAT A GOOD EXPLOSION! Did you guys see that explosion? It was brilliant, so orange and firery! Oh wait, it didn't kill him. Dammit, time to gently place this ring on the floor and slowly grab my--... dammit, I've got another grenade out! Best select my machine gun again so I can fire back........."

i hate enemies that mutate when you kill them and then you have to kill them again and achievements that tell you to kill enemies 100 times or something with all weapons and i hate enemies that outsmart me. all i want is just a dummy to be there and take it point blank range so i can yell yeah mofo i'm da best

Wow, so your the person they make games for these days....

I prefer smart AI, I like the fact it's a challenge to sometimes out maneuver or out think the AI and defeat it. Whats the point in enemies that pose no threat

No one mentioned this?

Infinitely re-spawning enemies.

I'm primarily looking at Call of Duty: World at War on Veteran here.

Also, infinite grenades landing on your face while you're in a bunker.

For me, the inability to remap the L1 & R1 buttons on a PS3 shooter... The L/R2 buttons are in a much more natural position, so stopping me from using them is just daft.

Auto aim/aim assist that cannot be disabled - look I know I'm a poor console gamer who doesn't have the speed/accuracy of a mouse, but aiming on a joypad really isn't so hard that your software needs to do part for me!

Short games also annoy me - we spend what seems like years waiting, only to get something that lasts less than 10 hours. One of the reasons I still believe that Skyrim is an absolute gem - over 200 hours and still going :D
