Hi Guys, Need some Help

I want to overclock my cpu to about 3.1/3.2 ghz

my system is the following

Q660 @ 2.40 Ghz
2 GB Ram
Saphire HD 5850 1GB
2 X 320 GB HDD

not too expensive, but definetly want to overclock my quad core to 3.1/3.2 ghz.

any decent p45 should easily get you there.
i have a B3 Q6600 and a DFI Lanparty P45 t2rs plus (used for £40) and i have it a 3.4ghz stable.
i would love to have a G0 revision, should easily get higher.
or a Asus P5Q Deluxe or Gigabyte EP45-UD3 are the top of the range.(£40-£60)
also iirc, all the above offer x8x8 crossfire, so you could add another HD5850 for a good boost in performance if needed

keep looking in the MM, for a used one, as not worth spending money on a new board that is outdated

Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard [GA-EP45T-UD3LR]

would this support ddr2 ram as well?

You'll have to purchase ddr3 ram for that motherboard dude.

It's a tidy board I have the older EP45-UD3LR, has my b3 Q6600 stable at 3.2Ghz using Corsair H50 and temps go no higher then 49c on all four cores under 100% load.

I am happy with this ;)

Would love to know what V Core volts you're using to get your B3 to 3.4?
Might just be my motherboard or ram but can't get mine stable at 378x9 even with 1.48v :(

I am happy at 3.2Ghz it'll do till I upgrade in a few months.

no. but if you can get it, i would and then sell the ddr2 ram, ddr3 ram is much cheaper now
or try for the asus p5q deluxe or pro

1.445 in bios
also you should unlink the ram, so it doesn't interfere with the overclock, luckily my ram overclocks good as well :)

i need it to support dd2 and ddr 3 preferably.

do you mean ddr2 and ddr3 on the same board?
there are some that do, but you should wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along, as i dont really know that much.

(where is Big Wayne when you need him? ;))

Ok can somebody recommend me one off ocuk, because i don't really know what im looking for. I just want something that can support ddr2/ddr3, if its a good mobo then just ddr3 because i am willing to buy ddr3 ram if its a good motherboard.

Cheers for the info dude, what ram you using? I always thought you get the best out of your ram if you keep it linked so that it runs 1.1 & 2.1 ratio?

i dont go by that, for example.
if your cpu were at 3.6 ghz, 400 x 9 = 3.6, and your ram is ddr2 800 (400 x 2) , then you are at 1:1
but my ram is ddr2 800, but i have overclocked it to 1020 (510 x 2)
then surely my ram is faster,
also i am using 425 x 8, try dropping your multi to x8, but this will depend on your mobo

I am running 4gb of geil black dragon 1066

This is what my cpuid says.

Sorry to hijack your thread B&W ;)

you have your ram underclocked. you need to unlink it. as its only at 800mhz
look in bios and set the ram at 1066 or just above

also i have geil black dragon as well ;) but 800mhz
it should be at 2T but my mobo set it at 1T, i dont know why

also sorry op
