I'm pretty much done with studying and it has come to the time where the university has decided to rinse us dry with silly fees for the graduation ceremony, at £25 per ticket :(

So since that's unavoidable I'd like to save as much as possible on getting the so called traditional graduation robe and square hat.

I've had to pay £37 for the hire of the robes etc, 2 tickets for people to attend the ceremony are free and extra ones can be purchased at £15 each. Didn't think that was too bad actually.

I got mine from the recommended university outlet:

However your university charging you for the graduation service seems very money grabbing; I thought Leicester was bad!

Well I am in London, and thats the one they recommended for me aswell. They quoted me £42 for it, still looking around for any better deals.

I was considering either going casual or in a suit :D

yeah they said my entry was free for the ceremony but all guests must pay £25 each. I don't think I'll slap my dad with a £50 fee since hes already going to be driving all the way to London early morning.

also going to forget about the graduation photos, those I hear are proper extortionate fees so I'd rather bring my DSLR and tripod then print at Jessops or something.

I went to my girlfriend's graduation at Leicester - the graduation lunch was such a rip-off! We went with her uncle to he Chinese all-you-can-eat in the centre instead :D

I hired my gown although I wish I bought it as I moved on to Cambridge and I use the gown quite a lot here. The only problem would have been that I graduated as an MEng, but I'm not allowed to wear an MA-status gown yet because I am not 24. I have to wear a BA-status gown which doesn't befit the MEng status, and the undergrads know it :p

I think I may have to just order it from that Ede & Ravenscroft place. Oh and where do you collect the gown? do they post it? or do I get it from my university?

At Leeds you ordered it all online and then on the day they had all the gowns required and just dished them out upon arrival.

It is a one off event in your life so worth doing properly for all the pictures and future memories.

Same happens at ours, you put your order in then they have a room set aside on campus for you to go and pick it up before your ceremony.
