I recently got Outrun2006 for PC and hearing those classic old tunes again got me reminiscing about playing the original back in the 80's when I was just a young boy - to such an extent that it occupied my thoughts whilst playing.
I can still remember being an 80's kid with a mullet playing the original stand up Outrun cabinet at Butlins in Minehead on my summer holidays. The fact that you could change the tunes was so amazing at the time; with the steering wheel to boot. Even though I didn't play it a lot back then, I found it poignant that the music was still indelibly etched in my mind after more than 20 years of not hearing it.
All of the original Outrun tracks are great, but whether in original or remixed form, Passing Breeze and the hi-score music in particular are extremely nostalgic tracks for me, both in general tone and in my memories.
I don't miss or dwell on the past, but was surprised at how vivid a visual memory hearing those tunes again inspired. It unlocked a tiny fraction of time that I can remember with crystal clarity.
