How is my Curriculum Vitae?

Same thing...

Don't start a CV with I, and in general writing in the third person improves CVs.

Don't care what the editorial ghost hanging over you shoulder thinks of you, it's a personal document it should be in first person. But also don't want to see I...I...Me...Me...

Use implied first person - aka "Just the facts Maam"

  • (I was) Responsible for setting fire to all tramps that licked customers inappropriately.

The bracketed part is implied, that has no place on a CV.

How fantastically useful

Anyway - it's not great. You seem to waste a lot of space and it just doesn't seem that compelling.

Just remember that they're going to get A LOT of CV's - what makes yours stand out? WHy do you think you're best positioned to get this role?

Is there any suggestions how I could make the CV more compelling and don't really understand how I have used a lot of space?

Would you say this is an improvement from my original one?

No CV is going to be compelling at your age unless your name is Zuckerberg or Stuart Baggs "the brand" :D

By the way, I can't see your updated version either.

Think:

I'm xx years old, what do employers want if they are going to take on someone of my age?

Do you know anyone that runs a business? ask them.

Your CV is a marketing document. Tell an employer what they want to hear. Bend the truth. And sort that formatting out, it looks awful.

Also ignore what career teachers told you, there's a reason they are career teachers and don't have proper jobs.

Create a header and footer. Header add all your contact details. Footer add you reference. Maybe put the background on these sections to black and the font in white...make a clear beginning and end to your document. All headings done the same.

2 pages max at you level. Education at the top, newest course first (i.e. ur degree) I personally hate personal statments...save that for the covering letter in my opinion.

Much better 2nd attempt.

Also check your tenses in work experience. Keep it as past tense; worked, created, achieved etc. On the whole good but your first IKEA sentence is 'work' not 'worked'.

Also consider some Bold or Italics for the sub headings which I would class as the company and date you worked there. Have a look at that first line as it just says date and straight to the company, put a dash in there:

Feb' 09 - Oct' 10 - IKEA, 'Insert city/town location'

And that was a lot of help as well. Just "bin" but using more words.

It was meant to be an ironic neo-criticism of the CV, in that it says absolutely nothing and is so bland as to be useless. It reeks of being padded out (what's the difference between "till work" and "handling money" and "handling money"?) Is operating a till a skill? Most supermarkets let the customers do it themselves these days without any training. Training others? In what? Work well in a demanding environment? Where's the evidence to back this up?

"I am interested in outdoor activities and competitive game situation below is a few of my favorite interests"

Does that actually mean anything at all?

Seriously, it would be straight in the bin - and I'd start by looking at some example CVs first, but specifically the content rather than the layout. Although the layout isn't great either...

There isn't a lot of skills i can put seeming as i have only ever worked at lower operational level on a business. And when job specification advertise being able to work in a busy environment and competent on tills I don't see why this isn't a skill. I have worked on express checkouts and can tell you know a lot of customers still struggle to use them.

My CV content in the past can't be that rubbish for it to just go in the bin seeming as i have always managed to get interviews and have some lined up. Remember I am not applying for a Managerial or specialist job. I am a student looking a for a summer job which most often doesn't require a lot of specialist skill.

Thanks -Ad- just added those in now. Not sure i like the bold sub-headings.

No worries, glad I could help. All the CV needs to do is get you noticed and into that interview!

Come to think of the bolding titles, it might not work on yours. See the extract below from mine to give you some inspiration :p:D

For you Uni course I presume you started Sep' 2010? If so then your projected grade can't really be for your whole degree course, I preusme this is an expected 1st year average grade? It just seems a little unclear.
