Favourite/best ever gig?

Oasis at the City of Manchester Stadium a few years back. Epic, as you would expect, and the venue was surprisingly good too.

U2 at Twickenham was also amazing. Arrived at about 9 in the morning in order to get into the inner circle.

Other than that, seeing Adele live at the Tabernacle in London in January was one of my most memorable. She is such an amazing talent, and she sings as good, if not better, as her album tracks when on stage. I think there are some YouTube videos actually, but I'm on my phone ATM.

Lostprophets @ the astoria - best atmosphere I've ever experienced at a gig

Muse @ wembley stadium - wasn't in to them much before this and only went because I got a free ticket. My word did they blow me away. Amazing.

Metallica @ Reading Festival - was of my face anyway, but that is one performance I will never forget.

Oasis @ Wembley Stadium - long time oasis fan, this gig had everything for me and Kasabian were a support band so for me it was like buying a beer and being given the rest of the crate free. Loved it.

Kaiser chiefs @ shepherds bush empire I think - the worst gig I have ever been to. The atmosphere was crap and they were very mediocre.

And of course many others I could spend hapless hours blabbing on about.

Donington 1987

Heh, my first ever gig was Donington '88 :D

Been to so many since hard to say a favourite...

Most memorable overall was when I convinced a friend to go to Philidelphia to see Metallica for the hell of it...planned to just go for the w/e, stayed 10 days :p

So many to choose from.... Hmmm a couple of highlights.

Rammstein in 2005. Newcastle Metro radio arena. My first arena gig, right up at the front. Support didnt show up (Apocalyptica) but Rammstein owned the stage. It was a show more than a gig with flames, confetti and all sorts flying in every direction. Such good clear vocals and perfect playing. Didnt get my hearing back fully for a couple days.

Foo Fighters at the Sheffield Arena in 2007. Supported by Serj Tankian. Had the audience in the palm of their hand. All the classics with so much energy and enthusiasm. Ended with a collaboration with Serj and a classic mini orchestra. A very tidy cover of Holiday in cambodia was heard that night.

Slipknot at sheffield arena in december 08. Supported by Machinehead and Children of Bodom. Love all 3 bands and they all played a blinder. Machinehead guitarist fainted which meant their set was cut short. Atmosphere was electric as soon as slipknot came on. Joey Jordison doing his spinning drumkit solo was a definite highlight.

Close call between:

Foo Fighters at the City of Manchester Stadium in 2008
AC/DC at the Manchester Evening News Arena in 2009.

The Foo's put on the better gig, but I had always wanted to see AC/DC.

Re: the OP, as much as I love Glastonbury and seeing the big Pyramid stage head-liners (and you're right, their sound set-up is impressive considering the size of the stage and crowd), I don't think it can ever do a band justice compared to somewhere more acoustically pliable.

Too many to name.....but a few might be:

Foo Fighters at Sheffield Octagon on the colour and the shape tour
Donington 95, my first gig/concert....
Kyuss Lives! @ Rock City this year, never thought I'd ever get to see them
Mono @ Corp a couple of years ago, the only gig I've been to where the crowd went silent when they came on stage
......

and many others :)

Definately between these 2:

Radiohead at Glastonbury Pyramid Stage 2003.
Muse at Glastonbury Pyramid Stage 2004.

I don't think I will experience anything this good again, both bands were absolutely in their prime, especially Muse, whom I think have drifted a little since then.

Queen @ Knebworth when I was 17 in 1986. Nobody realised at the time that would be Queen's last concert but wow, what a gig. 125,000 people and Freddie and Queen stage presence was amazing. He really was one amazing performer live.

Oasis at Murrayfield
Kasabian at the 02 Academy(a day after the oasis gig)
Blur at Hyde Park
The Cribs - ABC and Barrowlands

All top gigs, thard to decide between them.

Emperor Liverpool 93 original line up
Metallica Radio 1 showcase 2009
Donington 2003 i think when Metallica were the secret band in the tent

A few stick out:
Metallica at Download 2004. Lars, the drummer, had to go to hospital so in stepped Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Joey Jordison (Slipknot) and Flemming Larsen (drum tech). It was just a once in a life time thing. They were late, the crowd were getting anxious but the minute they stepped out it was just amazing.

Idlewild at the Lemontree in Aberdeen years ago. Only good as I got onto their tour bus afterwards and chatting and had a few drinks with them.

Glastonbury 2000. I was 11 or 12. Just a phenomenal experience at that time.

Nice to see someone else list this one :D

It was fantastic though, when they played Fake Plastic Trees, arwwwhh! What a moment!

I managed to get a bootlegged dvd of the performance (taped from the BBC) on ebay a few days after I got back from glasto. It's still amazing when I watch it back.

I've a few and have probably missed some as well:

Donington 84 - AC/DC, Van Halen etc.
Rush - R30 tour, as they hadn't been over here for over a decade, then again, any of their gigs.
Pink Floyd - Earls Court, stunning.
Queen - Knebworth and Wembley Stadium in 84
AC/DC - Southampton in 1980 - got me into rock/metal, it was that good.
The Jam - Brighton Centre 1980
