Im thinking Zotac 470 ?
Or asus 560 ?

PSU is only 550w with 30 amps on the 12v

Im thinking the 470 but what do u all think ?

Yeah, I think I'd more than likely go for the 470 as well. Close one though. I'd pick it for the memory and probably nothing else.

Looking at this review - the GTX 560 is a decent match for the GTX 470 in BF:BC2 and it draws much less power - so it's a pretty good fit for your needs. I would suggest going with this version (when it's back in stock).

With a "550W" PSU that can only supply 30A on the 12V (360W on the 12V rail) then I wouldn't chance it with a power hungry GTX 470 - the GTX 560 is a more efficient card and a better choice for this use imho.

Is Anandtech trust worthy by the way?

Yea, it's a really reputable source that always do very in-depth and fair tests. Hence why they are often recommended reading and links to their articles/benchmark results are widely linked to.

From wiki:

Blogging expert Bruce C. Brown called AnandTech one of the "big dogs in the tech field".[8] Computer expert Leo LaPorte described AnandTech as an "outstanding review and technology website for 3D hardware and other computer components"[9], and said that it is "one of the most professional hardware review sites online."[10] Describing AnandTech, author Paul McFedries wrote that "its heart and its claim to fame is the massive collection of incredibly in-depth reviews".[11]

Id go for the 470, the psu should be ok, with 2 of them overclocked, and a highly clocked cpu. In game im drawing 630w ono. A c2d system uses considerably less power than my i7 920. Also the higher memory, shaders etc, plus the 470's can overclock extremely well.

470 gets my vote although I am slighty biased;) Can't comment on the 560 as I've never owned one.

The issue with a GTX 470 may be with the OP's PSU. He mentions it is "550W" unit with 30A on the 12V rail - this is the same 12V rail rating as the Corsair CX 400W and I'm betting it's not near the same quality as the corsair (ie it may not be able to reliably deliver all of this power).

To the OP, may I ask what the make and model number of your PSU is?

Thermaltake TR2

Its my old PSU and it ran my 480 when i was on the old mobo etc and it was fine, The fan did speed up in gaming on the 480 hense i changed to my HX850

given the fact it was marginal with the 480 how much less does a 470 draw ?

I like the idea of the lower power for him but also like the idea of maximum grunt

The 470 does draw a fair bit less than the 480, not sure of the exact amount but if the PSU was fine for a 480 then you'll have no trouble with a 470.

+1 for the 470 and later get an after market cooler as mine idles at 35 and tops out at 62 with a zalman cooler with overcloks off 800/1600/1676 brilliant card :)

The way to go Randal
