2011 Hayfever

i suffer from it really badly, infact i get it so bad that my eyes are so itchy when i itch then the protective layer around the eye just comes apart and ends up being a lump of jelly in the corner of my eye :(

I get this BUT I only suffer from Tree pollen allergy, when i was about 40 i ended up going to the doctors with what i thought was some thing in my eye it was like i'd had sand thrown in them.

When they told me it was Tree Pollen allergy I couldn't believe it :(

I don't get hay fever and this only lasts for a few months then it's gone, I tend to just buy the cheapest tablets from Asda and they sort me out @ 1 a day, usualy starts coming on a little as i'm off to bed and of course i wake up running snot and eyes stuck together :)

Ate a raw apple last year and got the same reaction + my throat started swelling up, got a little panicy to tell the truth, turns out the same protien causes my allergy is in apples as well, cooking kills it off which is a blessing :)

Bit of info for the uninformed -----> Nature hits back :)

Apparently high dose vitamin C 2000-4000 mg per day can relieve symptoms, as can following an immune system boosting diet. Self help, instead of running to the doctor every 5 minutes can sometimes reap far bigger improvements to our health.

Like to show some scientific evidence for that, hey fever isn't cause by low immune system. Sounds like rubbish homeopathy nonsense.

exercise helps :)

my hayfever was dreadful last 6-7 years - nasal sprays, tablets (prescription ones), eye drops etc - nothing really helped

last year I didnt take on tablet or one nasal spray

this year I'm suffering a little - but still not taking any tablets or sprays yet

only real difference for the last 2 years is that I've been exercising (since early last year) - very hard - was gym 6 times a week, currently 3 long distance runs (outside in early evening when my hayfever should be worse - but its not for some reason), and 3-4 gym sessons a week.

did a google search and apparently Testosterone levels can subdue allergies

re the poster above with Tree Pollen allergies and apples ... I'm mostly tree pollen as well -b ut also some grass pollen - well I got really bad hayfever symtpoms immediately after eating a raw carrot last year .... checked online and sure enough raw carrot has similar proteins to certain types of tree pollen too

Thankfully so far I have not been touched this year. Never as bad as I used to get it when I was in my teens. I might have one bad day maybe two a year and some years it skips.

I'm still completely hay-fever free, have been for 7+ years now. All for a minor change of diet for a few months before the hay-fever season starts.

Not much happening with me atm so I am very happy. Finger crossed it'll stay like that for the rest of the summer.

Is it possible to loose hayfever symptoms with age? I'm 31 now and the last 2 years have been very good for me :)

Good post. Most allergies are as a result of a depressed immune system and can be controlled if not completely cured by diet.

I too suffer from hayfever but my conditions are usually constant sneezing and blocked up nose :( Once had a meeting with our O2 clients and i ended up with both noses being blocked out so i sounded really funny :D

So far the only thing that has worked for me is the Otrivine nasal spray which i have to take about 3 times a day

Done some research into my and it appears that i have rhinitis and every time i blow my nose its not a pretty sight :(

My hayfever with traditional symptoms kicked in early March, my eczema has only just started. I've been on Flixonase and Citirizine since March and it's pretty much kept it in check. I'm now going to have to start on the steroid cream on my hands to try and avoid the tiny little blisters that are starting to appear. **** this ****. :(

Piriton works better for me but unfortunately it's a no no from a work perspective. Lotaradine seems to do the trick though.

I have a slight variation of Piriton that has been spot-on for the last couple of years, and because of the drowsiness side-effects I usually take them at night or in the evening when I get back from work.

Forgot to the other day so took one around 10am, really regretted that, the last 1 mile stint driving home was painful and extremely worrying, felt absolutely knackered like a truck had hit me, came on so unexpected as well :(

I have it terrible with hay fever. Nowt works and every hour or so i'll burst into a sneezing fit and then have puffed up, runny eyes and basically look like a wreck. Worst thing is the sneezing though, it's so violent that once when we were rotting in a beer garden I sneezed so hard a wee bit of snot shot out of my nose and fell into my pint. :(

Usually I suffer terribly from hay-fever but this year, not so much.

That said, today is the first day I have really felt it, had to go buy some tablets from the garage.

Anyone tried those Lloyds Pharmacy light therapy nose things ? One of my friends swears by it.

same here, yesterday is the worst i've had it this year, so far avoided taking any hayfever tablets and i'm sure this time last year I was taking one a day!

Mine kicked in on Tuesday morning. I'm quite sure this has been the worst I've ever had it and it's decided that I don't need a nose anymore. I'm now sitting in the corner of the office all day... sneezing... and then more sneezing.

I might actually have to use an inhaler today for the first time in almost a decade!
