Hi all,
Looking for some advice.
At the moment am using Creative Fatal1ty headphones.
Only probem I have with them is that after I wear them for a while because my ears are covered I get too warm...(strange?maybe ;) )
I think its because of material on them...
Can anyone suggest me some other headphones? are there some that will allow some airflow ?
Thanks in advance!
Bastic

What is your budget? Are these for gaming primarily?

For £95 you can get the Audio Technica AD700. Widely regarded as the best gaming headphone and superior to those marketed "gaming" headsets.

as for me mostly gaming, but my other half is a musician so will be using them from time to time to listen to music...

am starting to think that maybe I will buy some decent headphones ( maybe up to £150-200) for her and as her ;) so later on she put them on her tax return as a capital expenditure ;D

I will check those AT AD700 :)

The AD700 don't fair too well with music that isn't stuff like classical and orchestra. They excel at soundwhoring in games.

If you have a budget of up to £200 that opens up your options a lot more, but then you might have to consider amplification.

amplification ? for ipod or some stuff like that ?
I would use them on my home sound system or PC so would I need a amp for them ?

If I would say £150 is my budget, what would you suggest ?

read first review of ad700 and one of the cons was that they warm ears a bit ;) we dont want that :)

I think all headphones will warm your ears up to some extent regardless of whether the pads are leather, pleather or velour. Open cans will be slightly better for this since they allow air in.

To make a good recommendation I need more info such as what music genres you (or the missus) generally listen to, do you like bass/treble/mids or a balanced sound?, for gaming do you prefer to be immersed or want to be able to wallhack people with your headphones?

As for amping, it depends on what your PC soundcard or home system is capable of powering which is affected by the headphone impedance and sensitivity/efficiency.

soundcard I have is X-fi.
as for sound system...dunno what spec it is ;)

as for music...classical for her. and as for me balanced.too much bass will just annoy me...

I dont mind open ones as those will be just used indoors and if there will be some sound bleed, it wont annoy anyone :)

would be usefull if we could use them on ipod/laptop/tablet on some occasions so not much of amplification possible

does it help ? :)

and thx!

I'm inclined to recommend the Sennheiser HD598.

I should be receiving them within the week so I can't properly comment on their performance yet, but they are meant to be good for gaming and a good all-rounder when it comes to music.

I got mine for £150.

As I'm in no rush whatsoever, I will wait for a small review/ comments then ;)

the hd598's would sound better with a amp, some thing like the FiiO E11 or E7 that also has a usb dac. better sound for the laptop/ipod

theres a nice review http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/556783/fiio-e11-review-and-comparison-e7-amp-section-only

I think either the AD700 or HD598 would suit your needs. I don't listen to much classical, but the "Classic FM At the Movies" cd sounds pretty darn good through both of them. Both are fairly bass-light, but I think the AD700 has the least bass and is brighter overall.

For gaming I think the AD700 has the edge on the soundwhoring, but both are very good. Ears do get hot after a while with the AD700 and the fit is loose but they are not uncomfortable. The HD598 is very comfy and doesn't seem to heat up ears as much.

Both of them look slightly strange each in their own way however, they are for listening not for looking cool in.:D
The AD700 just looks ridiculous on head (I looked in the mirror and burst out laughing) with it's 2 rings that stick out and the 598 looks to be styled after a car interior with cream, brown and fake wood effect.(The 558 could be a cheaper alternative with more 'normal' colours)

I very briefly tried them out of my iphone headphone out and they work well enough. I suppose a cheap amp like a FiiO couldn't hurt.

I'll chime in with the Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO - Studio headphones that have excellent positional sound and incredible bass.

I game with them for hours at a time and don't notice overly hot ears :)
