Highly recommend the TP-Link 200Mbps Powerline Adapter

Evening all

Just thought id pass on my personal thoughts for anyone thats looking for some homeplugs. The TP-Link 200Mbps Powerline Adapters are fab, recieved mine today and they seem to work a charm. I only have a 3mb connection at home and according to the utility they have been transferring as high as 135mb and only gone down as low as 70mb which is indeed much better than wifi. Thought id test out battlefield online and even with a ping of 120 on the server i was on there was no noticable lag at all

So if anyone is looking for a good cheap starter kit they are definatly worth a go for sure
 
I concur, I use them to connect my media centre to the fileserver - it's only a 100mb switch, and using iperf it shows around 94mbit.. which is the switch limiting I suspect.
 
Perhaps a daft question but does operating these increase your electricity bill? I don't quite understand how the technology works, yet interested in potentially getting some based on performance reviews and potential pings also.
 
They really are great mate, i just bought another single adaptor from another site as OCUK dont stock them on there own :(. I now have 3 altogether now 1 upstairs in my room connecting to my router with another 1 also upstairs in the other bedroom connecting to my desktop and the last one is downstairs connected up to my xbox. Simply paired them all up and away you go. If i ever want to add another device i'll just get myself a 100mb ethernet switch and hook all the extra devices thru that.

One thing to note tho, the disk that comes with these is not compat with windows 7 for some reason and it does not support the models either lol which did make me laugh the disk was for the TL-PA-101 model i believe and these are the TL-PA-201 you can download the up to date utility from the tp-link site though and it works a charm, you can see what thru put you are getting from your plugs as well.

I have not decided yet if its worth turning off the plugs when they are not in use but from what i have read they dont use a great deal of electric
 
I borrowed a pair from a mate at work and they were brilliant so they're on my list for later on. Plug them in and you're connected. They did get quite hot tho which makes me wonder how much juice they use.

Thats the one thing im interested to find out, i would not think they use to much if they are just sending and recieving a signal. Think im gonna turn mine off at night from now on but not to sure if i will have to pair them up everytime they are powered on tho so gonna test it out when i get home
 
These only consume a negligible amount of electricity by themselves. They work by introducing a modulated carrier signal onto the existing wire.

Specs say they use 3W peak each. So at most £6/year for a pair.

I use the TP-Link 200Mb kit myself, very happy, especially considering it's one of the less expensive brands.
 
Is it better to have them plugged into the mains directly or can they be plugged into power extensions as well?
