Just over 7k for a mint condition one, 1 owner and under 30k miles.

They seem to be quite rare, especially in the South; does anyone have any experience with them? Seems like a lot of car for the money.

I know they're pretty poor for fuel consumption, are the quoted figures realistic?

I keep eyeing them up, would love one and very tempted I love the understated looks and they are a bit of a sleeper in terms of they dont have plastic dripping off at every angle which is rare these days but the fuel consumption and tax bracket is the only thing that puts me off as well as trying to be sensible :(

Very very quick car. Had one smoke me when I had the ST220. Great cruiser that can go pound for pound with some of the best. Particularly when sat at motorway speeds.

I watched a 106GTi smoke an ST220 the other day.

I doubt I'd have added one very, let alone two, but they are quick cars and should be reasonably capable being 4WD - plenty of scope for tuning as well, if that's your thing.

the newer 3 mps's look like the new scoobie STI hatchbacks hehe. the 6's are 4wd i think?

Mike you never cease to amaze me. I refuse to engage in debate with you on the grounds I've read some of your other threads.

OP I think 7k is a bit pricey for what is a fast Mazda, but it guess it's fairly low mileage...if you could get it for 6, I'd do it.

I heard it possibly had a head gasket failure.

Explains it! :p

You should not underestimate the little GTIs.

Is it really that hard for you to grasp that a car that is only around 20bhp/ton off the ST220, but has significantly shorter gearing, could be faster? Not to mention the amount of tuned 106GTIs around - I think someone was telling me the other day that a simple filter, exhaust and remap would see around 140bhp, which would see it equal the ST220 in power to weight ratio while retaining the favourable gear ratios.

I guess my point was that the ST220 is hardly a benchmark for considering a car fast.

I agree with favourable power to weight a 106gti might do well against an st220 but then thats a modded car against standard, and once you hit proper speeds like 60+ i've no doubt the extra power would help the Mondeo.

Smoke it implies the little Pug left it for dead.

Ok, so a little poetic licence was applied with the term "smoke", but the ultimate result was the same.

Replace 60+ with 90-100+ then I'd agree there, too. In my experience, this is usually the point were power to weight becomes less relevant and aerodynamics and outright power take hold.

You mean you saw a Chav in a 106 try to race an st220 and the driver of the mondeo was to busy laughing at him to race

One thing I will never underestimate is you :p

Only 20bhp/tonne? You say that as if its an insignificant figure when in reality it's quite a lot!

No but as the Mazda6 MPS's main competitor, it's probably the most valid benchmark in this entire thread.

Hence the reason I used it as an example. Oh and the fact I had one :p

Not to mention having been MPS'd a couple of times...learn't that lesson the hard way.

I've got a 3 MPS which has the same engine, get about 240 miles to a tank of fuel. Mixture of slow motorway (M6 J10-6) and town driving. I wouldn't say I drive like a hooligan, but i'll let her rip from time to time :) but to be honest even when driving as carefully as I can, I don't notice any huge difference in the figures!
