Can anyone recommend a solid, good value (non-smart) phone?

Hiya

I've currently got the Sony Eriksson W810i. I love it but it annoys me that I have to delete texts every five minutes - I could do with a phone that can save texts to the SD card. Also I like to use the reminder system but a proper diary type application would be better. Apart from that I love the phone. Its robust, it has a nice speaker, its easy to use... Anyone know what phone might be right for me?

Budget? :) I mean the Orange San Francisco is fairly simple and texting is great as it's more like an IM.

But if you don't wan a smartphone, Samsung have always been good, but I'm not really in that market as much as I used to be.

Sounds good because I do text a lot :) But I imagine I could get something cheaper that would do the job. It might be just based on my current phone but for some reason I associate Sony Erikkson with good quality.
 
Best phones for texting are BlackBerrys with the proper QWERTY keyboard, I miss my Bolds keyboard, wish my LG Optimus 2X had 1.. :(

They aren't for everyone, a lot of people find the buttons too small and cramped to use effectively.

OP, when I see the words solid and robust, I can't help but recommend the Motorola Defy, its a great phone that is designed to take a hammering (within reason).

It is a smartphone but everyone is moving on to those these days and the older phone styles are being left behind, why not jump ship now? They are about £150-200 so not really expensive but that is all relative.

Anyway, if you want a 'normal' phone, something like this might be worth a look - http://www.nokia.co.uk/find-products/all-phones/nokia-c3-touch-and-type
 
For a non-smartphone I would recommend a nokia.
But you can get something like an orange san fransisco or LG Optimus 1 for a decent price.

They may very well be but even for me when typing on my iphone4 i find that i hit the wrong button numerous times and have to go back and correct it...the iphone4 predicative text or auto correction sucks ass too.

Whereas my BB, i can type out a long text or email much much quicker than say a touch screen keyboard....dont know how people can type so fast on a touchscreen keyboard plus one of the biggest fails for me on the iphone4 is there is no haptic feedback...again the BB keyboards are much better because you get a better feel for the keys....Android keyboards have haptic feedback well some of them do but even then i couldnt get used to typing on them.

Just how many texts do you get?

I still have a W810i, still working fine. Menu's very logical compared to many later phones I've tried.
 
I can get up to a decent speed with a touch screen, iPod, X10mini. But I'm still much faster on my e71. I've never had a warning about SMS messages on it. But then I delete them every few weeks or so. Why do you want to keep them?

20 a day? But yeah you're right its a cracking phone. Something else might just disappoint :p
 
I think the problem is once you have one phone that long, its going to take you a long time to get used to something else. Everything has a learning curve with the exception of perhaps an iphone.
 
You really shouldn't have trouble picking up on using any of the new phones unless you are pretty 'slow', most of them are well polished :p

That or you can't be bothered with them, but thats not a good reason! :mad:
 
Unfortunately some are pretty 'slow' to not to grasp basic human nature in learning new things, or that newer isn't always better. Not everyones a technology ****. ;)

On my E71 they put the option to switch to speaker phone, two menus deep on the stock firmware. Took them 2 or 3 updates before they moved it onscreen when on a call.

On the X10 mini I'm messing with at the moment, on the default install of 2.1 they have the backspace, on the left. First time I've seen that on any device. You just not expecting it.

The buttons on a Blackberry are more cramped then the keys on my virtual keyboard and I still hit keys accidentally sometimes. No thanks...

I used to have a K750i, mate had one of the 800 series. I couldn't imagine using one of those in this day and age! Texting like that is horrendous.

Android keyboards have haptic feedback well some of them do but even then i couldnt get used to typing on them.

iirc haptic feedback is a hardware feature and not software, could be wrong though.

How do you mean you can't get used to typing on them? I doubt you tried all of the keyboards as there's loads and loads of different keyboards you can download and use for Android. I personally rock this one at the moment.

or when you said keyboards did you mean physical ones?
