Meh... Vauxhalls

I think it might have been Clarkson that said it best
"the trouble with vauxhall is that ford exists"

ford may often be a technically better car but i and others i know prefer the looks of the vauxhalls to their ford counterparts. vauxhalls usually come up cheaper second hand to.

BSM lessons in a Corsa did it for me. Hateful thing and I will always be put off Vauxhalls in general as a result.

have to say i spend 12-14 hours a day in a facelift vectra(albeit elite spec) and its really not a bad place to be

pretty much decided that the replacement in 2013 is going to be a split new insignia sri 160

Because back in the early 90's (car was from the 80's) my dad had an old Vauxhall Astra that was a heap of crap. That memory still stick and I will forever associate any Vauxhall with that car.

It matters not what the merits of a Vauxhall may be in isolation when almost every other competitor is simply better. So why bother?

No they aren't. They are normal everyday cars that lose out (most of the time) to other manufactures who do every day cars.
To suggest they are great makes me think you haven't driven many cars!

I drive a vauxhall and I would agree with this. It certainly isnt an amazing car by any stretch, but it's relatively cheap to run, very cheap to service, and was faster whilst getting better MPG than the equivalent Focus.

It may not be quite as good to drive as the Focus, but it performs the same day to day tasks just as well.

From the time I have spent lurking on here I personally feel that a few "key" posters, have a strong dislike of Vauxhall. To be fair, there reasons are quite legitimate, there are better cars out there. But it seems to snowball with other people jumping on the band wagon and I personally dont think they are anywhere near as bad as some people seem to make out.

Cars's.... Why is there so much Macho man attitude about them.... I've owned Vauxhall's for 10years and never had any problems at all with them, infact girls i've dated have said nice car.... I spoke to my sister in law 2nite and ask what would you prefer... a guy to pick you up in a Vauxhall vectra or a sporty volvo or sumin.... reply was, i would care... So long as they knew how to tread a girl!!!!

No girlfriend has ever moaned or dumped me because of it... So why? Seriously is it some kinda of macho man Gayisum or something I'm missing... I dont get it? Woman dont care about the car's guys drive surely? It seems more like narrow minded guys trying to prove something to each other...

Goonah out!

Cars's? She would care? tread a girl? Gayisum?

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

I think a big part of the problem is the OP seems to see a car as a pickup tool for girls, where as we generally don't :p

Does anyone over the age of 17 still pick a car and think 'yeah I'm gonna get all the ladies in this'?

I'd say if you need a car to get a woman then there's something wrong ;)

I've owned a fair few cars including Vauxhalls and aside from the Insignia or Monaro I couldn't see me driving another. It's not that they are all bad, just most things are better in their given classes.

To equate Vauxhall disklike to some form of machoism or girl chasing mentality is childish and down right bizarre.

Why be close minded and say "need new Vauxhall" it just doesnt make any sense to be a fanboy about one brand. Just be open minded and buy what ever is best.

Fella, whats the boot opening like on your coupe? would it be big enough to get a bike through it with the rear seats down (assuming they fold down?!)?

The rear seats dont fold down so its not the most practical of things unfortunately. It does have ski hatch but I think you might be pushing it getting a bike through :P

In all seriousness though, I haven't ridden a bike in a long time, the boot on the coupe is pretty chunky and the opening is quite wide. I dont think a bike would have any problems going through the gap, somehow I think you would need to remove both wheels to actually get it in though given that the rear seats are fixed.

I'd rather push a Ford than drive a Vauxhall

Comments like this are exactly what I was refering to in my earlier post, its blatent hatred with no justification or cause. Would you actually rather push a broken down Focus however many miles home rather than arrive in comfort in a fully working Astra or Insigna? Dont be so daft.

ive got a 07 vectra 1.9 cdti 150, the engine is ok its economical does 45mpg and its proven relaible so far, but the handling is crap the mondeo is miles better, if i go too fast into a big round about it feels like it wants to go straight on, dont trust it at all, it feels nippy enough but i raced my dads mondeo tdci 136 and couldnt loose him and in the bends was right up my ****, glad im selling it next week getting a bike for fun and a van for work

I agree on the whole.

But I don't think there was a competitor for the Omega that I have.

Most of their range over the years has been FWD and have all been poop. Vauxhall's can churn out decent cars in RWD configuration though; Omega, VX220, Monaro.

Ah that sucks, saw a blue one that interested me but without the folding seats it would be unpracticle :(
though I guess with the passenger seat forwards that creates a lot of space... hmm.

That's a typical comment about anything that people seem to dislike on this forum, people would rather do something very pointless and stupid just because the name doesnt fit etc. it will never change

I probably wouldnt reccomend it if you do need to lug a bike around. With the way the passenger seat moves (its a lean forward slide forward affair to aid entry to the back) I think you would block quite a lot of your visibility by having it all the way forward.
