If you were able to get a 5850 for no cost, or a 6870 for about £60, which would you pick?

With some vouchers I can get a second hand 5850, sell my 5770 and basically end up having not spent anything.

Alternatively I could get a 6870 for ~£120 and sell my 5770 for ~£60.

What do you think?

I think I'd more than likely go for the 5850. I don't know whether you would consider crossfire in the future, maybe then it would affect my decision.

I bought a 5850 and am very happy with it, I game at 1920x1080 and I've not had any problems running at that resolution. Mind you I am not trying to play crysis with 16x AA but for Crysis 2, portal and Black Ops its more than fluid enough for me

Overclock the nuts off it, still is a higher end card.

save the money get 5850 still a good card, might not get the same amount of driver love as a 6870 but has enough grunt to last you.

6870 is only a tiny bit faster than 5850. And if the 5850 you referring to support voltage tweak, overclocked 6870 is barely faster than overclocked 5850, if at all.

5850 is a solid card. I have one, and game 1920x1080. Of course, I paid nearly £260 for mine! Still no need to upgrade.

i would say the 6870 tbh as it would be worth the £60 tbh (new tech which scales better if crossfired)

The second hand 5850 is good for free. But, £60 for a new 6870 would be a bargain. It generally runs cooler, and would have a full warranty.
