GTX295 vs GTX460 1Gb

Currently got a GTX460 in a mobo that wont do SLI. Possibly have the chance to straight swap for a GTX295.

Is the GTX295 faster than the 460? I know id lose DX11 but i dont think thats a major hassle really.

Or of course the expensive option is new SLI capable mobo ( currently have an original B2 P8P67 vanilla ) and another GTX460
 
Hmm I thought the minimum recommended for a 295 was around 680 watt. Don't hold me to that though. Yours might be fine since it is a Corsair after all, and 650 is so very close.
 
Go for a 470 instead - smoother performance and overclocks to roughly GTX295 performance without reliance on SLI.
 
HX650 will be more than enough for a single GTX295, it is a lot less about wattage these days and more about amps on the correct rails. I ran three GTX460s at overclocked speeds with an overclocked i7 920 on a TX750 folding 24/7 with no issues.

I agree with Rroff though, a GTX 470 is a better long term buy, especially if you can pick up a 2nd down the road when you need that extra performance. All dual GPU cards have driver/game specific issues which often limits their performance.

I think the main points to consider are:

1) The OP can upgrade to the GTX 295 at no cost

2) The OP doesn't have an SLI compatible motherboard

He did say tho "Or of course the expensive option is new SLI capable mobo ( currently have an original B2 P8P67 vanilla ) and another GTX460" instead I'd reccomend selling the 460 and getting a 470 and clocking to 800MHz which most will do, better option than GTX295 or 460 SLI (unless you have a pair of nice 460s with aftermarket coolers that clock like stink).

Looking at it more closely its gonna cost about £30 to swap to the 295 as it seems i wont get as much for my 460 as i thought
 
I personally would keep the 460.

Stepping back to a non dx11 card, with high power and heat is not my idea of an upgrade.

Makes me wonder why someone is offering you a 295 as a swoop, if the 295 is the 'better' card?
