I've just upgraded from GTX 460 1GB to GTX 580.

Using one of those power-monitor devices on the mains lead these are the power-readings I got:

PC with GTX460 1GB: 375W Furmark + Prime95
PC with GTX460 1GB: 310W The Witcher2 Flotsam

PC with GTX580 1.5GB: 330W Furmark + Prime95
PC with GTX580 1.5GB: 370W The Witcher2 Flotsam

I was expecting the GTX580 to use more power, so I've also bought a 750W PSU (to replace the 520W I have). But looking at those figures, it doesn't look like even the 520W would be pushed!

I have five HDDs, a GeForce 8400GS, and Xonar Essence STX on board also.

I get 500w ~ from the mains with my system (spec in sig) with Furmark & Prime running.

The 580 monitors its power usage, there is a version of GPU-Z which can disable this.

Which is really not a good idea...

Those power readings are a bit low tho, I'd have expected atleast 100 watt higher than that with the 580 onboard.

Me too, hence why I also spent a fortune getting the Corsair AX750. Now I wished I'd not bothered!
