All the Stobart sites let you do this, others (such as Tesco) insist we hand in keys & wait in drivers "rest rooms"

Some places insist on Red air line disconnected (which locks trailer brakes) keys handed in & drivers still not allowed in cabs.

It annoys me greatly, I used to sleep for hours whilst backed onto loading bays.

Asda - the ones that don't "side tip" do let you stay in the cab, again no keys....

Why? What on earth do they think is going to happen?

Is that the depots or the stores?

When I was at Tesco the driver would unload things from the back of the truck so we could take it into the store - we weren't allowed into the back of the truck AT ALL. It was a disciplinary offence to do so!

I wonder if they will have the driver on that I saw when I was coming back from Wales. He swerved all the way onto the hard shoulder nearly trashing the vehicle, as we drove past he was still trying to eat his yoghurt whilst driving. Obviously a nice yoghurt

God I hate that phrase. The worst thing is that it's all for show, nobody in management actually cares about anyone but themselves, and yet they still try to drive the idea that everyone should be super-enthusiastic about making the store/company lots of money whilst getting paid pittance in the process.

Now I really don't want to go to work tomorrow.

Some people dont like football, understandable.

There is nothing interesting about day to day road haulage, or lorries, or the people that drive them.

When things go wrong, IE, the lorry explodes or crashes and causes a 20 car pile up, or they break a 2 million pound racing car and the claims adjuster is filmed kissing ass to pacify the owner, THAT might be interesting.

The competent movement of mundane freight by run of the mill people struggles to hold my interest because I get to see that every day when I walk through transport to my office.
When I have to drive sometimes I get to hear about the world ending disasters that cause mayhem in the office:

"He delivered 20 pallets and only brought 16 empties back! WHAT WAS HE THINKING! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO"
"He's got a flat tyre and is going to be an hour late to his delivery at the welcome break in Nottingham! LETS RUN AROUND A LOT WITH GRIM FACES!"
"Bob didnt put his truck through the truck wash when he got back, do you know what that means?!? DO YOU?! it means he is going to have to put it through the truck wash BEFORE HE GOES OUT IN THE MORNING! AAAARRRGHH ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE LEVELS OF DISASTER !"

They want us out of the vehicles to prevent any chance of the truck pulling off a loading bay whilst some poor sod is still inside unloading it. - It happens a lot.

People laugh about Stobart on Channel 5, I personally fail to see the excitement that they try to work into the show. That said, season 1 was C5's most watched factual show last year apparently, rumour has it series 3 is already in production!

One thing, this weeks episode says that every truckers fantasy is running ahead of schedule. Hmm, mine would involve women, alcohol and things I'd get banned for mentioning here....

And you wonder why you're not on the show?

I wouldn't go out of my way to watch the show but from the position of someone not in the haulage industry it's occasionally interesting although more importantly it's undemanding TV to watch while eating in the evening and it's less offensive than watching the soaps/one of the reality talent shows.
